Loosen and remove the two rear, skid plate bolts.
Press the skidplate to the ground, (It doesn't take much pressure).
Loosen the oil drain plug, but don't remove.
I made an oil "catch can" out of a one gallon solvent container. You can see the rectangular hole I cut in the can near its top.

Remove the oil plug and let the oil drain into the "catch can".
Once the oil is throughly drained, replace the oil plug.
Loosen and remove the oil filter and let its excess oil drain into the "catch can". (I can slide the "catch can" up under the filter.)

Finish your job with whatever oil filter and oil you plan to use, (this is NOT an invitation to start another oil thread!!!!!!).
I then let the "catch can" oil drain into an empty laundry detergent container. At the end of the season, I take my old motor oil and fork oil to my local motorcycle dealership and they burn it in their furnace.
