I would like to replace the read wheel DL1000 with a wider one to carry the 180 sport bike tires. I get free tires in that size. Has anybody tried to do this with an SV or GSXR wheel.

I did. I used a wheel from an 02 GSXR 600. You also need the caliper bracket from a SV1000. The only difficult part of the swap is machining the spacers, brackets etc to center the wheel. All the extra width is on the right side. I got the bearings and seals from an industrial bearing house.

The cush drives interchange. The offset is the only difference. The 600 places the sprocket in line.

I found an excellent machine shop that made all new spacers, collars.

In hindsight I should have used a Bandit 1200 wheel. The axle size is the same as the Strom. That eliminates one problem.

I'm very happy with the results. Full throttle while heeled over scraping the pegs.

Next up is an 18x3.5" front wheel.
