Just FYI

I've been using that oil on all my bikes and it is fantastic. The local Suzuki dealer here even recommends it on all bikes. $50CAN for 4 liters.

It is specially designed for wet clutch bikes, says so right on the bottle and on Bel Ray's website.

I found MOTUL 10W40 full synthetic. Cheaper than the Bel-Ray and just as good. Great oil.

Have you done a UOA on your V-Strom?

I have nothing to base it on other than it doesn't burn and the bike shifts great. Castrol Act-Evo is a nice botique 4 stroke motorcycle specific oil in the 10-40 flavor. It's about $20 USD for 4 liters.

Does anyone else use that?

Using Amsoil 10-40 car oil. Will not hurt the clutch plates and the Wee likes it.

I like diesel rated oils. Shell Rotella 10W-40 dino mostly or 5W-40 synth for trips exceeding the regular oil change mileage without an oil change.

Did my own oil change for the first time on the bike today, the dealer did the 1000 k inspection and change.

Purchased the Suzuki filter wrench Cdn 12.95, sump plug washer $1.00, 4 litres of oil Bel Ray 10W-40, @ $8.73 per, used 2.7 as per owners manual, one oil filter $7.95. plus 7% GST and 7%PST taxes.

The sump plug 14mm and filter were easy to access and place back on.

At 4042 ks the oil was good and dirty so it was doing its job.

With a sight glass in the litre oil bottles it was easy to get the .7 of a litre

The whole process took about 30 minutes, with prep and clean up tking equal time with the actual wrenching.

Also lubed the chain

The side stand makes the oil change a breeze. Next one at 8000 ks

Ive been running the bike for 2 months.

+1 for the Rotella Synthetic! Buy it by the gallon. Tough standards to meet.

I use the amsoil cage oil b/c of cost effectiveness. It is cheaper, has a longer change interval if I chose to go that route(not so far)and I can find it with a little less difficulty than the M/C oil. Nobody around here stocks amsoil except Can Tire and their selection is limited so no joy there.
I did run amsoil in a 96 ranger bumper to bumper in everything and was very satisfied. At 170,000 kms it ran better than the first 30,000 with regular oil. The gas savings alone far exceeded the extra cost for the synthetic.
I also ran amsoil in the diffs, transfer case and power steering of a 86 full size Bronco. Amazing, at 40 below there was no drag with the front manual hubs locked in. The power steering was a touch lighter and exceptionally smooth. Transfer case, B/W 1345 was slightly quieter and shifted nice.
As for the Wee, it runs nicely, shifts smoothly and no oil consumption. Of course I would not expect oil consumption with a good dino oil either. As for amsoil being good, it just is.
A few years ago I happened upon an independant study that found amsoil to be the best motor oil in all categories. Mobil 1 was a close runner up and I would not hesitate to use it. The study did not include M/C specific oils but I think all things are relative. The study did note that amsoil 10-30 was of such a fine base stock the makers had to add little or no additives to exceed all specs in the study. Too bad we can't get 10-40 like that. Then I could beat my drum louder. I will shut up now and go away.
