hi there stranger. i am on the west coast living in squamish just a nice ride north from vancouver. bought my wee last july. ordered a new left front signal a week later. ooops. haven^t ridden that much (3000 km ) but am enjoying it. nice riding around here with the mountains and seaside. this is my first bike in what feels like half a lifetime. first real street bike since 1978. i had a GT 750 for a year and liked it. went the way of street legal enduros for years and here i am.
i am told it will be spring here soon. can not wait. the wee is calling to me now. i am retired so i will be roaming as much as i can.
keep the shiny side up.

You will really grow to luv ur Wee. I bought mine last april and put almost 32,000km on it. Not one single problem with mine. On my 3rd back tire and 2nd front one.
Hope to put on over 40,000km this coming year, with a trip to Tuktoyuktuk and Nfld.

I am in Morden, Manitoba which is an hour south of Winnipeg.

Cheers!

I live in South-Central? Saskatchewan. 12 minutes (a bit less on the Strom) west of Moose Jaw. Moved here from Manitoba in 1981. I ride the 2005 DL1000 and love it. I put on about 16,000 km last summer. Also kept my '82 Honda CB750 Custom. Great weather here lately. I went for a half-hour ride yesterday. (January 5)

For the guy living in Squamish... In the spring you'll want to point your bike north and ride to Lilloett and then down to the old Number One. Lots of nice curves up that way. Here's my website which includes a Motorcycle link with a number of rides I've taken.

Tuk and Nfld. wow, sounds like you almost live on your wee. have been to newfie land and it is fantastic ( caged of course ). years ago drove up to fairbanks and did top of the world hiway. another fantastic trip (caged again ). as a basic beginner i hope to ride to edmonton this coming summer. i did try for lilloett a week after wee arrival. stopped at a point of interest and determined gravel parking areas and signal lites don^t mix well.
sounds like you have ridden more kms in one year than all of mine. i am wondering. where do you find the time ?

Hey from Brooks AB.

My wife and I bought DL1000 and DL650's last spring. I had not ridden for years and her very little on my last bike a Honda 400F. Did one trip last summer to Virden MB,then up to Benito, then off to Yorkton,Regina and #1 home to Brooks.

About 6000K on my 1000 now and the wife has about 2500K on hers. Did a few trips to Drumheller to visit our son and his family. Looking forward to lots of riding this summer and maybe the Yukon. Did it by camper two years ago and loved it.

Cheers:D

Did Lilloette trip last summer (Canada Day weekend). Took the ferry from the Island to Vancouver, then Whistler, Lilloette, Kamloops and back home. That was a good trip. Also visited my parents in Saskatoon (September long weekend). Took the Yellowhead to Edmonton then Saskatoon. Headed down to #1 Hwy on the way back. Went to Lethbridge and stayed on the #3 Hwy which curves and twists through the lower part of BC. Came off the #3 in Hope and took the main Hwy into Vancouver where I caught the ferry back home to the Island. Favourite part of these two trips?...... the #3 Hwy. Absolutely spectacular. This Hwy will offer something for all riders and sightseers. The Lilloette (sorry if the spelling is wrong) trip is also one to ride as well. Both should be on everyones motorcycle trip "to do" list sometime in the future as you will not be disappointed.

Hi Upnortstrom, welcome to stromville.
About Montana, check the maps and find the Sun Road. If memory serves me correct it is between East Glacier Park and West Glacier Park. The trip would be awesome on a bike. I have Driven it(caged) twice and would love to ride it on my Wee. The road was built about 80 years ago across the mountains and the scenic value is fantastic.
Maybe some local folks could jump in here and fill in the gaps. The best time of year and weather etc.
Hmmm. I wonder about my planned trip to Edmonton, a little detour here, a little detour there. Keep the shiny side up.

And here it is pictured with its stablemate, a 2001 Honda XR650L (keeping it for more rugged trail riding):

In case anyone's shopping around and wants to compare prices, I paid $7885 + $99 (dealer setup) + $35 (license) + taxes. It's a 2005 and was still in the crate up 'til a couple of weeks ago. I don't think anyone else had a chance to even sit on it before I snapped it up.

I'm lovin' it so far!

Hey Pilgrim,

What happened? What made you take the bike in?

I'm getting an FI alarm with flashing red light. I checked out the other forum and found that if you jumper a red/white wire to a black/white wire (ground) in the dealer mode block you can pick up the FI error code. I took it to the dealer and when jumpering the wires found out the code was c11 which indicates a Cam Shaft Position sensor problem. They checked it out and believe it is a faulty sensor. I can ride without the error displaying but sometimes when getting into the throttle the FI will cut out intermittently due to the sensor triggering. They have a sensor on order from Suzuki Canada but would you believe 2 weeks minimum as the sensor is on back order. Hard to believe Suzuki Canada can't provide a sensor without such a long delay. Anyway I picked my bike back up tonight and as I said it runs fine unless I get throttle happy .. so I'll take it easy until I get the new sensor. How is your new bike going?

Strom-meister
04-08-2006, 12:20 AM
No sweat about your mech. problems. This bike is extremely trustworthy and reliable. Even some Toyota and Honda cars have their issues but once rectified you have a long term ride with minimun down time. Ride on! You have enountered a rareity in the V strom neighborhood. You should expect many miles and few to no problems (basic wear and tear don't count of course).

That really sucks. Good thing you're still mobile, if somewhat limited. Good luck with it.
How is your new bike going?
I'm lovin' it. It had a really bad stumble/buck/stutter from 2,500 to 3,000 for the first 200 kms but it has smoothed out lately. At first I thought the whole "keep it below 4,500 RPMs for the first ..." would be impossible on any bike. After riding it for a week, I realize you could easily putter around town and never exceed 3,500 RPM with this motor. I just love the torque after riding my rev happy, 600cc, I-4. I've certainly been breaking the rpm break-in rules and grinning like an idiot while doing it. I found the 1000 seat was too high for my stubby legs and, lucky for me, arranged to swap seats with a member, gbart, who is over 6 feet tall, lives around Waterloo and has a really nice, new 650. In general, I'm very happy with almost all aspects of the Strom. I think I found a bike I can live with long term.

I hope yours is back to 100% soon so we can meet up and go for a ride.

Heavy .. I'm almost at 3000km and as you said I'm loving it. I know what your saying about the torque and pulling from low revs. I like that as my car is a Jetta diesel and that is a very easy car to drive. Lots of torque down low in the rev range .. kind of like a Strom. :D I didn't pay too much attention to the break in rev limit either. I tried and did pretty well for the first 500km then started to run up the revs until by 1000km I figured that was enough and let it all hang out

I'll get in touch with you Barrie folks once I get this FI problem sorted out. I can't have you running away from me as my FI cuts out. :(

I had a good ride on Sunday. Took off in the morning from Whitby up to Hwy7 .. ended up near Perth and went south down over the mountain into Westport then to Gananoque to hit 401. Had to burn back home to take my daughter to soccer. Nice ride and a great day.

My butt is getting adjusted but I think a Corbin seat might be coming soon. Hey I put on my Stebel air horn and it really is as loud as they say .. some fellow in a minivan was coming into my lane on 401 and I let the horn go .. you could see him jump and pull back quick.

Regards .. pilgrim.

Where did you put the Stebel? Any pictures for those of us yet to embark on that particular adventure?

I picked up the Stebel from California Sport Touring and asked for USPS shipment to Whitby .. here is the URL http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=horn

I can do pics if you need them but I'm hoping to get up to Barrie soon, assuming FI is fixed shortly, and I can show you. I got the idea for the physical mounting location from http://t w is ted throt tle.com/trade/productview/2137/539/ site (remove spaces to get the URL for some reason I can't paste or reference "Twis ted Thro ttle" note the asterisks below). However I modified the horn orientation since the horn installation directions note that the air cylinder should be no more than 15 degrees from VERTICAL. The Twisted Throttle site is showing the horn HORIZONTAL  .. which unfortunately I didn't note until I had wired to that location and horn in hand realized I had a problem. Since I had already disconnected my horn leads to use to drive the horn relay I was scratching the old noggin to figure out where to mount it. I'm not fully satisfied as yet with the mounting setup I settled on as the horn weight is hanging off the mounting strip with a large black tie wrap to a motor mount helping support the weight. Doesn't look as bad as it sounds but I may move it into the fairing or attach it to my crash bars when they come (I've got SW Motech bars on order and they should be here any day now) .. I purposely left the power leads long enough for future relocation.

Hope to see you soon :D

Heavy

I can't believe I missed that installation article. Thanks for the direction. I agree with you about the idea of inside the fairing. Might also offer some better weather protection.

Alberta is cool so far and yes I have a job. Not the greatest paying but it's a start 8) As a matter of fact one of the guys here *Tarmac* is a manager at the same company in a different area. We hooked up a cpl weeks ago for a ride with 4 Stroms ripping up some very nice roads. 2 1000's and two 650's 8) We are getting together again tomorrow for a ride to the Columbia Ice Fields I think. I haven't changed my Long/Lat yet as where I am is tempory still. Now that I have a job, Alberta license and plates for my vehicles, as well as an Alberta Bank account, I'm actively lQQking for a place of my own.

Hey Night Wolf:

How are you liking Alberta so far? Are you all settled in, gainfully employed, found all the great bike roads, hooked up with any riding clubs out there yet? Looks like you could now update your Lat and Long as well
now. :)

We south Ontario riders have been suggesting getting together all summer but not much has happened as yet. I did get together with Night Wolf before he moved to Calgary on one Tuesday night in July. I find it hard to plan rides in advance. It seems that I have to fit riding around everything else so most of my riding is last minute and solo  .

I would like to try to do a day ride this Saturday though. At the moment, my schedule seems clear enough. But of course, the weather forecast is not cooperating again - solid rain Saturday and Sunday  . Should the weather forecast improve, I would like to do the Beaver Valley/Collingwood ride (pavement only). I would plan to leave Maple around 9 am, heading west on King Side Road, up 27, across 17th Sideroad and so on. I would need to be home by 5 pm (wife's birthday).
Would this be of interest V-Tom?

Hi Throttlehound!

It interests me but I work Saturdays. I work until 8pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Thursday and Saturday until 5pm and Fridays until 6pm. I work in Woodbridge and try to take the bike in to work most nice days (except for Fridays because of other commitments.) Maybe I can swing by your neck of the woods on the way home.

If you send me a PM I'll give you my info.

I live in Sidney BC, close to Victoria. I am not an owner yet but will be hopefully soon! To the rider from Squamish (water worrier), I have done the ride from here to there a couple times this past summer on my Katana. Great ride! It'll be even better when the highway is completed.

Long Way, gotta agree with you. The road gets better everyday although the commuters are so damn impatient in the construction zones. A few of the sections are pretty much finished and a real treat to ride or drive. Will put you on my list of riders to coffee with next summer. Haven't been to the island for a few years now and coffee/riders are very good reasons to ride.

Humm... do I know you? Yup, got all the equipment and most of the time I ride with the upmost common sense. There are times when the fun just pushes me a little though. The weestrom sure loves to go.. and it corners so well. Can't wait till I have to skills to really do it justice.

I've always wanted a motorcycle, but in my youth I had parents who nagged and then married with little kids. Now I've gotten rid of the ex and the kids are almost adults, it's time for me to be a 'kid' again.

I'm planning to put side cases on it in the spring (have a top case already) and do a little bit of touring with it.

I've been meeting the nicest people as well. They should use that as a marketing thing.. you don't realize just how many nice people are out there till you've got a bike...

Sue

Sue....I can agree about meeting people. Since I've had mine, can't count number of times people have stopped to chat - cyclists and non-cyclists. With the bike outfitted with the E52 and side E41s and me in the full gear I usually get comments like "nice bike", "looks like you could go around the world on that bike" or some story about how they or their cousin used to drive a Harley, Indian or the like. Makes great conversation "starter". Used to think it may be my striking good looks and silver mane that caught their attention but on more serious reflection it probably is the bike. :)

Cn also vouch for handling - yesterday I braved the wind to tend to some business in Bowmanville - never had the opportunity to ride in the rain, high winds and snow all in same day. Exciting!

Ya, I really should get to that. We had an amazing trip. Torrential rains in Michigan, first time my wife had ever been on the bike in the rain. Crazy cross winds between Regina and Medicine Hat. We rode almost the entire day, leaned into the wind like crazy. Ended up with all kinds of freaky wear on the left side of the front tire from the one day. 1A out of Calgary was a nice start to the real riding. Spent a gorgeous day riding South on 23 from Revelstoke, to Nakusp. Then South on 6 to the ferry at Needles and on, through the fires near Princeton, to Vernon.
I learned one thing about the praries on my way West though...they are a test to see if you deserve the roads from Calgary on. So flat, so straight, so boring!

Like my "North Dakota twisties" picture.

Actually, I don't really care! I think it is funny that people get all caught up in the 650 vs 1000 thing. I was sold on the V-Strom when my friend from Quebec came over with his 1000 k2 a year or so ago and I took his out for a ride. I totally loved it! When I got serious about getting one he suggested I look at the 650 and I did and got one. If there was no 650 I am sure I would have got a 1000. They are great bikes either way!

I don't call mine a Wee but don't really care what people call it. Originally I thought of it as "BUB", which stants for "Butt Ugly Bike". (Strangely, after almost 3 months and 7000 km, I like the looks of the Strom.) Now I just call it "My Bike" or when with other Strommers I call it "my Strom".

The reality is that they all started out as V's. The 1000 has been around a few years longer than the 650.

The only time I think the "V" vs "Wee" discussion is important is when people get serious and upset about it. Now that's entertaining. I have a 1000 but I think I'd be happier with the 650 on a day to day basis. I just felt I needed the bigger bike to carry my fat ass, and my petite little wife, across Canada this summer.

Dear (Fellow) Canucks,

In this thread, you are supposed to be explaining where you are.

OK, I live in Sarasota Florida, just an hour south of Tampa, but I visit the Greater Toronto Area when I can, generally managing a swim in Muskoka during May. Yes, May; we Floridians are accustomed to swimming any month of the year, and we take our habits with us (but usually leave our handguns at home).

In 2006 I rode my 2006 DL650 from Toronto to Denver, Vancouver, Saskatoon, and Toronto, by far the longest ride of my life, so far. It was fun, and details of that ride are somewhere in this forum.

In 2007, I plan to ride from Toronto to Cape Breton Island, and perhaps take the ferry to Newfoundland. As on the western jaunt, I hope to ride one way mainly through the USA, and the other way mainly through Canada. I can parlez-vous un peu, so I expect to enjoy the challenges posed by Québec (whether or not you enjoy the various challenges it poses for the ROC).

I found that I like to ride between 400 and 600 miles per day, then pitch my tiny tent at a rest area or somewhere out of the way, sleep about seven hours, and be on my way before 7:00 AM.

I would like some suggestions, such as "Avoid northwest NB; the mosquitoes will knock you off the bike and eat you" or "Do not under any circumstances order poutine!" or "Highway 3 through New Hampshire is a total treat", or "Magnetic Hill is bogus! Do not try to ride your VStrom up it backwards!"

The last time I was "Down East" Soichiro Honda was delivering newspapers on his bicycle ... well, no, but his Super Hawk was the hottest selling bike on the planet, and Stan Rogers was attending public school in Hamilton. I reckon that things have changed, and if you have some advice for me, I will welcome it.

I won't necessarily believe it or take it, mind you, but I will thank you for it.

Enjoy your ride!
Keith

P.S. ROC = Rest Of Canada

If you are going through Toronto and then heading east, you might be going through the Ottawa area (which is where I'm from). There are some interesting roads up this way that you might want to look up, roads towards Westport, or Calabogie, or even the Gatineau Hills.

This site has maps of some of the runs:
http://www.themcdonalds.net/richard/bike/rides.shtml
(not my site, but I've used some of the maps)

I just purchased more luggage for my bike so I'm all ready for some kind of adventure.

This is my first year riding, my first bike (June 26th) and I've managed just under 12,000 km so far. Haven't done any long trips though, just day trips, but longer touring is on my todo list.

Thank you, sdorleans, for the map showing pleasant rides around the city of my birth, Ottawa. I greatly enjoy riding to Ottawa along Highway 7, and I will invest some energy exploring Eastern Ontario on my way to the Maritimes.

I can tell you that the highways to the west of Ottawa, for example 60 to Huntsville and 118 through Muskoka are fine and scenic rides, and Muskoka Road 4 to Windermere has some of my favourite curves ever. Last time I was through that part of the world, there was a lot of highway under repair, so sudden sandy patches kept me from going very fast.

If you want a lengthy ride with a variety of attractions, consider taking highway 6 to Tobermory at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, then the ferry Chi-Cheemaun to South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island, then back home via Sudbury. You will find that Manitoulin is rustic beyond belief. I think that community is getting ready to enter the twentieth century ... soon, you know, but not immediately.

Best wishes,
Keith

I am anxiously awaiting my new 650 (and the weather to ride it in).
I have not had a bike for 15 years now and am looking forward to starting up again. From the reviews here, it sounds like the V-Strom is a good bike to hop back onto. I choose the V-Strom because it reminded me of the 750 Nighthawk S that I had at one time.
I am from Port Perry Ontario, A few miles north east of Torornto and a short hop from Whitby. Maybe I will cross pathes with my fellow new owner in Whitby.

TJ,
Greetings from the otherside of the marsh, or lake as some call it. I am just back into motor-biking myself. Had a VFR late last season, not for me, I will be tooling around the area on the other V-strom....maybe I will get the grey too....then blame you for all my troubles..."it was the other guy ..officer" ;)

You Ontarians certainly are an eager and gregarious bunch. I look forward to joining you in May. I will need to do some training for my Newfoundland ride in June, and find out the best insect repellant to use, so save some Black Flies for me, will you.

Yes, I remember unbelievably cold rides, and yes, I am damnglad I don't face a lot of cold nowadays. Privilege of age, I guess.

rcacs, you can learn a lot about Newfoundland by visiting www.ridetherock.com

I have found the denizens of that site, one of whom is a new VStrom rider among us (it's REALLY difficult to discern which one), to be cordial, inventive, hardy, and cheerful. I hope to see fireworks in St. John's on Canada Day, and I suspect I won't be alone.

One interesting attraction you can find at that site and hardly anywhere else: an interview with Paul Mondor, the fellow who rode from Vancouver to St. John's in January 2007. Yes, he did! The question is: What is written in yellow in the snow??? Watch, and perhaps you will find out.

Nfld. I will be there this summer on my Wee, bouncing off the sides of Moose.

Be sure to plan as much coastal road riding as you can, while on the island of Newfoundland. That's where all the truly spectacular riding routes are. The main highway (TCH or Route 1) runs almost entirely inland, and is about as boring to ride as can be. But the TCH is a good road for the purpose of linking the coastal routes.

Here's some suggested routes which will not fail to dazzle...

Western Newfoundland

-Port Au Port Peninsula Loop (Route 460 and 463)
-Deer Lake to Lanse Aux Meadows (Route 430)

Central Newfoundland

-Bishop's Falls to Leading Tickles (Route 350)
-Lewisporte to Wesleyville to Gambo (Routes 340, 331, 330 and 320)

Eastern Newfoundland

-Port Blandford to Bonavista to Clarenville (Route 233 and 235 and 230)
-Whitbourne to Old Perlican to Mahers (Route 80 and Route 70)
-The Irish Loop (St. John's to St. John's Route 10 and Route 90)
-Placentia to Colinet to Holyrood (Route 100, 92, 90)

Here's a very basic route and distance resource, too...

Newfoundland & Labrador Road Routes (http://www.roads.gov.nf.ca/routes/NfldRoutes.stm)

And not riding at night, can decrease your chances of hitting a moose by a factor of about 10.

rcacs,

There are lots of sources of info about Newfoundland and Labrador. Perhaps the easiest is 1-800-563-NFLD. I will be calling that number as soon as I make a few more plans.

One thing I do not plan to do, but you might, is the Trans-Labrador Highway. I won't repeat the news you can find at www.ridetherock.com, but there are several accounts of riders who have made that 1115-Km. ride and ejoyed it ... or not.

One fellow, on a Honda Magna, had an AWFUL time with bugs and mud and upsets, and would have sold or shot his mount if there had not been a ferry to carry him from Goose Bay to some pavement at Lewisporte.

Another rider, on a bike about as good as ours, said the ride was a delightful excursion in an unspoiled (well, almost) wilderness. Ho, hum, gravel.

Attitude and equipment and weather can mean a lot on an edgy venture like the Trans-Lab. One thing you can count on is friendship and support from the riders you meet in the newest province.

I expect to roll off the ferry in Argentia at about 6:00 AM on Saturday June 30, after watching the full moon set over the Burin Peninsula. A lot of things have to come together to make that happen, but it's my current plan.

My route from Winnipeg to Toronto might or might not suit you. I have driven Superior's North Shore, so I went south on MB 75 to North Dakota, then took I-29 south to US Highway 2. US 2 was a total treat, through forests and little towns all the way to St. Ignace Michigan and the bridge to Southern Michigan. I took I-75 to M-57 near Flint, M-57 and M-15 around Flint, and I-69 to Port Huron Michigan where I crossed the Blue Water Bridge to Sarnia.

The Blue Water is a friendly bridge in both directions. I have crossed it four times this century and dozens in the previous one; no trouble, no hassles, just cordial welcome. 402 and 401 took me to Toronto.

That's a lot of slab, but it's over 2000 kilometers from ND to Hogtown, and I had only two days for the trip.

Enjoy your ride; you have no alternative.
Keith

Do you have a Blog or any other info on your travel plans. Let us know when you are in the GTA area, meet you at Haugens..

Keith Falkner

R'Oli,

My lady and I will soon have our travel schedule in order. Roughly, it is this:

some time between April 21 and May 14: head for GTA via van, with V-Strom on trailer
remainder of spring: assist family and friends in GTA; ride a lot; swim in Lake Rosseau; check out new tent; visit Sturgeon Lake often; explore Haugen's on some Thursdays (and on other days on which beer is sold)

Sunday June 24: Keith heads east, through Ottawa, Cornwall, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, expecting to board the ferry to Argentia NL on June 29.

And then it gets kinda mysterious. The bikers on The Rock are gregarious and energetic and I think they will leave this old fart in the dust a lot of the time, but I'm ready for them, or so I think. Canada Day in Britain's oldest colony and Canada's newest province! What could beat that?

After about a week on the Big Island, exit the west side of it, either north to Labrador or south to Nova Scotia. Understand that Labrador is a world of its own, and to get off that planet, your orbit begins with 900 kilometers of gravel. That is about as much gravel as I have ridden in 45 years! Well, I haven't fallen on gravel yet, so what am I scared of?

Some say that the bugs in Labrador eat bikers and sometimes their bikes too. Well, my blood probably contains enough fuel and oil and alcohol to be inflammable by now, so the bugs will have to watch what they suck!

Why do you ask, R'Oli? Do you wish to join me on my Maritime trek?

Keith

Dustin told me mine was in, I asked about yours but he wasn't sure....quiting time he was on his way out...
I am going to pick mine up with helmet in hand...some time when the snow is gone...April....start the warranty as late as possible....need to clean the garage too. What about you?

I'm picking mine up next Saturday the 17th (It's my birthday present to myself).
If the roads are dry I'll ride it home. I want to have it in my garage (It's already clean) before I take off at the end of the month. I will be travelling until April 16th so I want to make sure it's ready when I get back.

I'll probably sit in a lawn chair with a case of beer and figure out what farkes to buy. Your welcome to come over for a brew. I might even let you sit on it.

It's a good thought about the warranty though. It gets the bike back on the road in spring before the warranty expires that year.

Not sure about my schedule, this week starts my busy season…. think I’ll be working the weekend. It would be great to have a Birthday pint with you….nothing better than admiring a new bike this time of year.
I was at GPBike this morning, picked up an Icon Jacket for my daughter, not much there I was interested in...I'll try and find some of the articles about the JR stuff melting undder a slide... I like the Rhyno stuff and from what I read and what a friend has told me (after a spill) it is pretty durable good prices at GP but not my size.. We continued our travels to BMW Toronto as I had been informed from a forum that they had previously had a huge sale on riding gear and still had some leftovers. I picked up a pair of pants and a jacket….half price…very nice stuff. It isn’t covered with BMW logos either, which is nice. Maybe in a couple years I will pick up a 1200GS to match my suit…ha. Send me a private msg so I can reach you, possibly have that pint with you and admire your new toy or plan some trips…..

Water Warrior,

The ride from Vancouver to Quesnel appears to be some 450 miles. I rode up to 100 Mile House, then east to Little Fort and past Blue River, and that was 453 miles. Of course, you have a 40-mile head start on that, starting from Squamish.

I missed a short cut, which would have saved a few miles. Before Cache Creek, 99 turns east, and there is a lesser road from 99 to Clinton. It might be a good idea to research that road before taking it. My map gives it a very narrow line, so it may be a challenge in more ways than one. Thus, it might be appealing in more ways than one.

Enjoy the ride! You will doubtless do that; it was the loveliest ride of my life.

pavilion b,c the road is a good short cut, when heading north from liloett you turn left onto dirt going through the indian reserve,it climbs a bunch switch backs the becomes real nice hard dirt, easy to safely travel at about 140 klm it the turns to pavement at pavillion lake and then about 16 klm s to clinton,it saves alot of miles,if someone has more time you can go from pavilion lake too williams lake on a dirt road that follows the fraser river, another good trip is at a place called jesmond you can take the two capacity cable retention ferry across the river and return to lilloet on dirt [ferry shuts at 7 pm]roads that way, china head mountain and the yolocom valley have great rideing ,but a bit too much for a strom but the way too lilloet is a good road

From now until after the middle of July 2007, I will be based in Thornhill Ontario, just north of Toronto. Until June 22, I will be exploring familiar and unfamiliar parts of Ontario, especially Muskoka, Niagara, London, Ottawa, and Peterborough.

On June 24 I will set out to visit the five provinces east of here (although some of Québec is actually west of Toronto - did you know that?).

I tend to follow the scents of coffee and donuts, and I am beginning to learn how to find them. I suspect the Stromtroopers of Ontario are as cordial (except Heavy, of course) as those in Florida.

I brought some Florida weather with me, but it will be all used up by May 7 and you will have Ontario weather resuming on May 8.

... but it takes so long to relate the saga that lubrication is needed for the elbow and the jaw. No actual flying is involved, but perhaps somebody made an attempt. I just determined that I know more than Google about that subject, because those two words, in quotes, got no action whatsoever!

Haugen's sounds like a wonderful idea. I am staying with a friend, and perhaps he will join us at Haugen's. His ride is in doubt, and his schedule is subject to the whims of others, but he would be an asset to the outing.

I will telephone the number you gave me, between 4:00 & 4:30 on Thursday. I will try to be a bit north and west of you when I call, so that I will be able to meet you as the echoes of the quitting bell die away. If you wish to specify another time or another meeting place, please do.

Hey guys, can I join? I'm an expat Canuck living in Olean, NY. Its in whats called the southern tier of WNY in the "Enchanted Mountains" of the Alegheny chain. About 15 minutes north of Bradford, PA and about an hour and a half from the Finger Lakes. Got some seriously nice roads and scenery down this way. More back country gravel and dirt "Strom roads" than you can shake a stick at as well. You southern Ontario riders aught to come down for a looksee. Gas is a bit cheaper down this way too.

I've moved, but the damned board won't let me change my location.
I'm now in Prince Albert, SK... so much for the bike's intended purpose as a year-round commuter.
Though I plan on pushing the beast as far into November as I possibly can before surrendering and buying a beater set of wheels.

Yep, thats Don. We shared an apartment in PG a long time ago and he gave me my first riding lesson in the parking lot at Simon Fraser University. We used to go to Kelowna once a year for the Knox Mountain hillclimb. He's a damn good rider. We met in SD last year for some riding in CO, UT and WY. Had a great time and smoked a bunch of cigars. Give him my regards when next you see him.

Before you enter Vermont, make sure your helmet has at least 4 square inches of reflective tape on both the left and right sides.

I do not know why. I do not make Vermont's laws, but I would feel so stupid to get a ticket that could be so easily avoided.

While I was in Vermont, I rode with Jackpiner57 and another cordial stromtrooper who didn't know about this law, but their helmets were so shiny that they would probably be complliant without additional reflective material.

I will have some errands to run in London Ontario next May. I won't need any help with the tasks themselves, but I would appreciate some assistance slaking a thirst afterward. Maybe Mr X could join us.

My Wee-Strom has taken me to all ten provinces, and next summer I do believe I will ride it up to James Bay, but I will have to brush up my French before then, because the highway is in Québec!

Another new 650 owner. I bought mine here in calgary about 2 weeks ago. I was ready to buy in the US and decided to try one more time locally and came up with a great deal...6500 for a demo with 350 K's on it. Farkled it a bit and am pleased as punch. Had it out to Canmore from Calgary last Sunday with some buddies from our local Alberta Dual Sport Motorcycle Club (www.adsmc.ca) and really enjoyed it.

Now I have a bike to ride while I mod the hell outta my Honda XR650L .

I bought it as a gravel roads/light backcountry tourer for me and my daughter. Can't wait to get her out on it but it's a little cool these days and she doesn't fit into my heated clothing.

For those interested check out the ADSMC. Lots of pics and smartass comments going on there and good folks to ride with if you're out this way.

Regards,

Garrett

Hi Chris

PM me with the specs and price you need. I've only got 11000 K's on the XR but I ride it fairly hard so I'll need replacements this year.

You can call me on the number in my signature if you like.

Thanks

I live just outside of Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Weather permitting, I'll be heading 1.5 hours eastward this week to pick up my new (to me) DL650 K6:

http://shopgpbikes.com/popup.asp?id=SVGT Agreed upon price: $5300.

I'm very excited. Farkles already present: centrestand, handguards and Givi E21 sidecases. Farkles I'm dreaming about: innumerable. Fiddling about with it this winter will offset some of the dissapointment that it *is* winter.

Anybody recognise this bike, by the way? The meticulous service log suggests the previous owner purchased it at Cycle World West, Toronto. If the odometer didn't tell me otherwise, I'd have thought it was just out of the box. I'm guessing it was used only for pavement touring and was traded in on a sports-tourer.

It makes me a little sad to be selling my naked SV650 this spring, but the DL is such a better fit for my type of riding.

I bought mine through Richmond Motor Sports... one of my road rides with Pacific we stopped there for about half an hour and I was introduced to the gang there. They're a real helpful bunch there.

Another Calgary strommer here - I am first time rider (street bikes anyway - rode a few dirt bikes many years ago). Just purchased a Yellow 2008 DL-650 approx 6-7 weeks ago and have about 1950kms on it at the moment...

I am really loving the bike. Installed a V46 GIVI topcase and Nelson Rigg CL850 saddlebags last weekend and just waiting for my crashbars and skidplate to come in (hopefully next few days). Looking forward to meeting some of you folks in person one of these days. It's just so damn addicting buying new kit/farkles for the bike
