I swear, tire pressure gauges are as worthless as Jap bike speedos. I have wasted so much money on gauges it's not funny. I have an inline gauge on my garage air compressor that I hope is accurate, but every other gauge I purchased is +/- 5 lbs from that one!

What is a good, quality name for a gauge, and how do I test the accuracy of the gauges?

I have a (well a couple actually) little Slime brand gauge that has an LCD display plus an illuminated head so it acts as a low power torch. Very handy when checking pressures early in the morning.

I've got three or four digital gauges from various manufacturers and they all read the same as my ancient and honorable mechanical dial gauge.

The gauges I do NOT trust are the ones that pop out the plastic slider.

Yeah, the reviews on that are pretty good, I think I'm going with that one.

Thanks!

Very timely, I have big kudos for RoadGear. Went to check my tires before a ride on Sunday and both of my RoadGear gauges (I bought the twofer) read "L" . I figured the battery is dead, so I try and fail to take them apart. I call on Monday and they tell me that I have the old model with non-replaceable battery (I figure I'm screwed at this point). I give them my name, they look it up and say, "Oh, you bought these 4 1/2 years ago and they have a 5 year warrantee. Send them back and we'll send you two new ones. And the new one TALKS!"

Now THAT'S customer service, thank you RoadGear!

I like the little tire-shaped ones at the auto parts store - they are just the right size to get inside the wheel and get a reading. Also they are instant-read.

I've got the little sister to that one, and it works fine. Bonus, it doesn't nag!
