When Installing the mounting plates, do you install them with the plates loose on the bars, or mount them rigid and lined up as best you can?

Oh, and blue threadlock in both options.

Thanks

Bump.

If you installed these bars, what technique did you use and how did you like it.

Im trying the install these this weekend, and am paranoid as I already had to return one set due to Givi manufacturing problem, their instructions look pretty bad too.

Thanks

I have the GIVI bars:p, leave the small plates loose enough so that you can move them when mounting the bars. You'll need an allen wrench to finish tightening the plates. GIVI has this set up 'cause not all bikes are exact duplicates. Older GIVI bars would crack at the weld seam in time. I used a little threadlock on all bolts for added safety. Re-check bolts once in a while anyway.
You might want to get the allen wrench socket set and an extension and u-joint for your wrench kit. I was able to tighten the little screw/bolt from the otherside. It's a real tight process. Just be careful of over-tightening, don't snap a bolt. And take your time !!!!!!!!
Good luck,

Thanks for the response, I wasnt sure that a wrench would fit back there, and Ill be sure to try that u joint trick, sounds good.

Also, the dry torque for the engine bolts is 16.5 (this is not confirmed, but the only info I could find) so I was going to torque them down to 20 pounds wet, do you think I could do the same for the plate bolts?

Again, thanks for the response, I wanted to do this project this weekend.:-D

Just installed the bars and used 20 pounds no problem.

Those plates sure were difficult though, the right side was the hardest, so an allen wrench was all that would fit, but the left side fit the ratchet and allen adapter. They look great.

Thanks again
