Nevermind, I think we're done here.

Slipping in a quick non-girly opinion, I think the chaps look great and the top jacket has the best cut for a girl IMO.

Dude, I don't think that they liked that you asked for their 'Girly' opinions.

Don't get me wrong, I think that the asking the advice of a woman, from her perspective, is a great idea. I also like the fact that you are attempting to 'gear up' your sis so that she will be safer when she rides.

From what I gather 'they' (the female Strommers) are generally not 'girly'. Your sister is cute, but doesn't seem 'girly' either.

You might get a better response if you asked your question in a different manner.

You chauvinistic pig! Women can speak for themselves, they don't need you........ :p

The last post other than this one in the forum was on the 16th, so probably just not enough peeps checking in often. I got a couple other ideas though as well, so I think we're all set. Everyone seems to like the top one I picked best afterall, and I've got her measurements. :)

You are way better off at advrider or another more general forum for gear posts, since they get a lot more visitors: there are 2,930 logged in at the moment versus around 100 here.

Best regards to your sister in any event. You should be proud of her.

Girly gear looks cute, but there's no substitute for protective wear. Look for stuff like a really good fit, reflective piping (at least), windproofing, waterproofing (even a liner is better than nothing), etc.

She needs the same safety considerations as you do. Looks come second.

That said, I -do- like the look of the 1st jacket in the photos.

Actually, Henerythe8th has pretty much hit the nail on the head.

When I read this post, I could do nothing but make a big sigh and wonder if Ducman had not read the previous Girl Gear thread at all (please ignore JStroms rants).

I imagine all the women riders that read this thread had to bite their tongues to prevent themselves from writing some scathing comment about patronizing ideas that if gear isn't cute then women won't wear it.

Don't get me wrong...it's great that you want to help your sister gear up for riding and that you're being supportive of that but....

Real women riders don't want "cute" gear, they just want well designed gear that fits and has all the same technical features as the men's. If it's attractive then that's a bonus but I'd say the vast majority would not want impractical, scimpy gear.

And any women that wears camo and carries an automatic rifle probably isn't too concerned about whether her motorcycling gear is cute or not!:p

Joe Rocket makes a jacket and overpant that has panels that zip off to become mesh and that has armour in all the key spots like elbows, spine, knees etc. The coat looks very similar to your bottom photo. In fact, I'm wearing it in my avatar.
It would be ideal for riding in hot weather-allows ventilation while still providing protection.

Good luck in your search. It will be a great Xmas present...more gear is always great!

Thanks for the tips! We're all very proud of her. She's actually a West Point graduate! :-D

And no offense, but after 26 years I have a pretty good idea of what my own sis likes as we are close, and thats why I've mentioned that if its not cute or comfortable then she won't wear it. Its not a generalization about women, its my lil' sister.

And regarding the assumption that a girl in cammo w/ a gun surely wouldn't be influenced by the attractiveness of her riding gear, as she has explained to me after being in virtual lock-down for four years at West Point and then a minimum of five years of service wearing unflattering fatigues and boots every day, on her free time she wants to look cute and femme and she has her hair done w/ makeup and manicure and gets excited about slinky dresses and shoes too.

So relax a bit, I had no intention of sounding patronizing but just asking what the girls thought was cute, since I don't always have the best fashion sense (she laughed at the jacket and helmet I picked out for myself originally (http://www.stromtrooper.com/showthread.php?t=23795) also based on looks).
