What have you folks (if you're willing) paid roughly for your machines. It seems that in my neighboorhood (MA) that the dealers always want MSRP. That doesn't sound right...
Hi daker,
Here in So. Cal, I got out the door for 9K. MSRP started at 8800 I think. He started out at 10,700 OTD, and we went down from there. So there is room for the dealer to work with you, just a matter if he will and how popular the bike is there. The more popular they are there the less he will probably go down. Here, everyone wants the super sport stuff, so he was ready to deal to get a V sold.
I'm having a blast with it. Many years of cruisers and I'm really impressed. It sure can straighten out the "twisties", and still is pretty comfortable. The factory wind screen really sucks though - buy the tall one from Suzuki, then go buy the bike, ride it home, change the wind screen, and then go riding :) It's not terrible, but it does toss the wind right smack in the middle of the face shield it seems.

I happily offered 9K OTD when I bought mine in April 2002 and the dealer took it. They have been sold for less at the same shop since I bought mine but no biggie to me.
Remember, OTD means "If I write a check, what is the total I need to write it for". Watch out for dealers that say: $8,500 then add $350 for Frieght, $300 for prep, $50.00 for title, other bs fees then the tax on top. Trust me on this one, they are out there.

I bought mine through a small dealer with competition not far away. I asked him for his best price on a 2002 demo and a new 2003. He quoted $7950 for the new 2003, plus $103 for license and sales tax.
I took the deal. IMHO, it all depends on the local competition and supply of local V-Stroms.
I suggest using the internet and ask for a quote. Thats how I got my 1999 SV-650 which was sold out at most dealers. I found a hole in the wall dealer within driving distance that was willing to deal.

Daker,
In SW Ohio, some Suzuki dealers did not order '03 models since they had trouble moving the '02s. I paid close to the $8900 MSRP in April 2002, but I hear the market is soft for the bike now. I considered trading for a more traditional sport touring bike, but found trade in too low. Now that I have better wind protection, I am keeping my Vstrom and putting more miles on it than I ever expected to. When I test drive something else to compare it, nothing comes close to the overall versatility and thrill. I have heard that dealers are receiving incentives to move the 2003 models so discounts should be out there. I also saw one on e-bay in early June, but do not know how much it went for. Good luck!!

I bought my 2003 V-strom from Jarman Cycle sales in Charlottesville, VA. They had it listed on Cycle Trader.com for $8199 plus tax and a $25 document fee. They do not charge extra for freight or setup. Very nice to deal with. Taxes will vary depending on state, but including all taxes, 2 helmets, and everything, I was out the door for less than $8700. James Jarman was wonderful to deal with. No preasure, no surprizes. :)

Well, I live in Oklahoma and paid 7699 + 431(extended warranty) for the 03 model. Seems that the dealer was getting 04 models soon and had to sell the 03's first. Good for me. BTW it had 0.5 miles on it.

I went to a few dealers in the DC/Baltimore area. I had quotes ranging from $9,800 to $10,700 (for a new 03 in late July). In the end I paid $9.858 OTD for the V with: bags, center stand, and the extended warranty.

I paid about $10.3K out the door. That included the wrapover rack for Givi's 3-case set-up, Givi engine case guards, HotGrips heated grips, tall windshield, centerstand, nylon rear swingarm guards/spools, Vista-Cruise throttle lock, the vehicle license of $160 and Washington's obscene sales tax of 9% for new vehicles. Oh, and the dealer threw in a free pair of Alpinestars leather Bat Pants I was looking at to close the deal. Well, that and 4% financing.
