Well, I bit the bullet and bought my first motorcycle in 5 years. The DL 1000 V-Strom. I purchased it Saturday and have YET to ride it home. The reason???? No helmet.

Though I live in a Non Helmet State (SC) - I chose life. This makes the forth Suzuki I've owned in my lifetime. 1981 I owned a GS450S, In 1982 I bought the Gs550 Katana (what was I thinking I should have gotten a GPz!, In 1983 I bought the Gs1100 Katana New. Then I went to college, and no bikes for a long time. Finally after hitting my 30's and making some $$$ I bought a Yamaha RZ350 Roberts Replica ( I had always drooled over it - and found one mint). Then a buddy HAD to have some cash and I bought his 1981 Kawasaki KZ1000 for practically nothing. Sold those to buy a 1999 Kawasaki ZRX 11000 Eddie Lawson Replica - which was the BEST bike I've ever owned. I sold it when my first daughter was born, while having the "hang up" about risking my life and being a father syndrome nibbled at me. (Anyone else have that?).

Most of my helmets over the last few years I bought from The Helmet Shop in Daytona Beach, Fla. I grew up 40 miles south of there in Titusville, and they've always been good folks. Anyhow, with the V-Strom purchase - I needed a "new" cool helmet (don't have any left sold'em). I wanted a Shoei RF-1000 in Velocite. My noggin is a pretty big 7/58, and no dealer had one in stock locally. So I call the folks at The Helmet Shop, and sure enough they've got one, and it's $270 including 2-day freight.

Of course my local bike shop said "No way man..." that's got to be a lower end model helmet. They can't sell those that cheap. (They really wanted that business). So I called the Helmet Shop directly from the local dealer sales floor, and sure enough, it's for the RF-1000 - any solid color for that price. Needless to say, I ordered it right there, and have been salivating to RIDE THE BIKE home!

On the up side... I did give my dealer the order for the OEM Suzuki Side cases and hardware, and the Diablo Textile Suzuki touring jacket. So they did get a portion of my hard earned cash.

Anyhow, I wanted to give a "nod" to the Helmet Shop. They've always come through for me.
Thanks for reading!

I completely agree with your assessment of the Helmet Shop. I live just south of Daytona and stop in regularly just to see what is new and fun. They are always great and work with me on whatever I'm searching for. Last spring we bought 2 helmets and 2 First Gear mesh jackets there. They even worked on the price even thought they were less than all the other retailers around.

Hey Jim! I grew up in Titusville! Sounds like you're not too far from there?
