Anyone own and use one? I have the canister kind, but is set up for charcoal. I noticed that I can convert it to electric. Any thoughts?
I got one of these that I hardly use any more because it is too slow. I prefer the deep fryer anymore.

Anyone own and use one? I have the canister kind, but is set up for charcoal. I noticed that I can convert it to electric. Any thoughts?I have and use a Brinkman smoker with an offset firebox for either charcoal or hardwood. Makes excellent beef and pork BBQ if you have the patience and cook low and slow. I also often smoke chicken, starting at a high temp to kill the bacteria. The benefit of the offset firebox is getting the meat away from the direct heat of the fire and flames. Still, these units are smaller than commercial pits and you have to move the meat around to get even cooking.
I've used electric smokers too but they're even smaller and harder to get the genuine taste of BBQ.
You won't go wrong with this one.

It's propane fired so you can control the temperature (225 and below)
Here's some of my ribs and brisket

Smoking meat is fun stuff. It's easier with propane as nothing typically gets burnt  :D

I have used both the charcaol and electric brinkmans. The electric is much easier to use but doesn't give that "real" BBQ flavor. The charcoal gives the right flavor but needs constant attention to keep the temperature in the right range. I have smoked turkeys in both kinds with good results. I lean toward the electric (I'm lazy) and try to get more flavor out of the rub.

Thanks torqueman. :D I have burned up enough good grub over the years to learn not to do that as much as I used to :D I'd be honored to do some Q for the Strom bruddahs. We might have to stage a monster meet n greet next winter.
As to the Brinkmann's and smokin' They all work fine. Just keep the temp below 225
Pecan is my favorite smokin wood.
Here's a great rub recipe. I prefer to take out a little sugar and add more spice.
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup papricka
1/4 cup seasoned salt (Lawry's and that ilk)
2 tbl sp sea salt
1/4 cup onion powder
1/4 cup garlic power
2 tblsp celery salt
3 tblsp chili powder
2 tablsp cayene powder
2 tblsp fresh cracked pepper
2 tblsp dry mustard
2 tblsp ginger
1 tblsp allspice

A little folllow up to the old thread. I have been using my Brinkman, but it is sitting on top of my turkey fryer base. It works good, but I am heading out in a few minutes to pick up a bradley smoker. We are having the Thanksgiving thing at my place, and I plan on smoking a few turkey breasts and a ham for the event. I will let you know how it works out.

I love it!
You have to get one. I only screwed up once so far, and that is because I left the pork chops in way too long. The dogs liked them though. Made great chew toys.
The forum (on bradleysmokers.com) is a big help.

I bought the black one. The stainless looked sweet, but I didn't want to spend the extra hundred for it to be shiny.
The digital unit really appealed to me, but again, too much money. I wanted to see how I like smoking foods before I got too out of control. I plan on keeping this one for a while.

I have this... andi it works ok. You have to keep the ash out of the firebox or else it will suffocate the charcoal from air and die the fire out.
Here is my latest piece of work...

I have one like this that was converted to propane. I use cast iron fire boxes that I fill with my favorite wood chips. I preheat the smoker then add a firebox. Tend it and put another fire box full of chips on when it runs out... excellent results. I also put a better thermometer on it. Now I have a meat probe with a wireless remote sensor, perfect meat everytime.
Getcha some...
I have BBQ'd for weddings and get togethers and also assisted with the Dutch Oven cookoffs and the Pig Out benefit dinner for CWHOG.
I likes my BBQ....

You cannot beat KC BBQ. I used to work for a Hallmark sub, and I spent some time in KC for work. Even their fast food BBQ (Like KC Masterpiece?) was fantastic.
I posted some of my culinary work on the Happy Thanksgiving thread. Here it is.
Smoked in the Bradley, then tossed on my Weber Genisis Gold for the finishing touch.

Brendan:
Come to KC anytime and I will show you the real BBQ joints ! KC Masterpiece went out of business here because their are too many other good places.
Here is the best BBQ on the planet, bar none. It's in the little tiny town of Hutchinson, KS. Many a famous name have walked through his door.

Smoked a whole chicken, and a large breast yesterday. I had 3 people "not including me", say it was the best they ever had. Needless to say things turned out great....looks like ribs this weekend!!!!:p
