After examining the options for luggage, I went with the SHAD cases for my k5 650.
The bags are 42L, so nice and big for those long hauls. The brackets fit very nicely and are well made. The left side does stick out a longgggg ways, as it is also for the 1000.
I cut and modified the left side to bring it in 3.5".
The bags them selves are pretty high quality, and have so far been 100% water proof.
When the bags are loaded, there is some movement of the bracketry. They could have been somewhat heavier duty.
The kit comes with turn signals mounted to the brackets. The instructions indicate you have to remove the factory blinkers. I made a small bracket and was able to retain the signals in pretty much the factory position. I then wired in the extra light to be on constant. I replaced the bulbs with a much dimmer bulb, as they were extremely bright.
The bags are of the quick detach variety, and the mechanism is very good.
I had also ordered the top mount, but apparently, SHAD had not actually made the bracket yet, and I have never recieved it.
The price was more than reasonable, 500.00 CDN for the brackets and 2 side bags.

cheers

I have had the SHAD 42 topcase for 4 months now and have been very happy. I've got 6000 miles of travel in all weather with no leaks. I bought mine through Cosmopolitan Motors and couldn't be happier. Here is a link to a picture of it on my K5 DL650.

I bought mine here in Canada, and for some reason the SHAD website isnt working right now to check on international dealers.
Try this site:

I have the SH42 side cases. They easily hold a full face helmet to give u an idea how big they are.
