just got done puttin on the e52. went on in about 20 minutes. (ok...prolly took an extra 10 minutes gatherin tools) used an allen wrench, 10 mm socket, and a pair of pliers. removed the luggage rack to put the 2 frame rails on. bolted it back down. used the pliers to hold the flnge nuts attaching base plate to frame rails. snapped the case on. easy came with directions but they were in couple different tongues. (yes i checked the reverse side. no english) but like most good rednecks i can follow the pictures

took it out for a spin up to about 60 mph. cant tell its back there. its huge and cavernous. u could prolly haul groceries for a few days, enuff beer to make u and few other fellas feel real good, (dont drive!). hey...i put my xxl modular and coat in it and it easily closed so it'll hold alot!!
i'm impressed with it and would recommend it.

hey bear, iwas just looking at the e52, where did you buy and were you happy with service, price etc? prefer it to the smaller 48? jet

hi jet,
bought it from a place called sport touring. $329 delivered. they were a bit cheaper than twisted throttle so i went with them. i think u can get a tale lite kit for this thing. if so it would look like huge neon billboard at nite if all that reflector lites up. anything to be more visable.

just got my e52 top case delivered with the tail light option. got it from sport tour also. rlmotorcyles were nice to talk with also, but the mount was on back order. will try to install tomorrow. looking forward to the carrying capacity. jet

jey,
how did the tail lite thing work out on the e52? how hard were they to install? and does it lite up like a x-mas tree?

bear, it lites up nicely and grabs your attention. like i said, i had another person smarter than me hook up my lite. but he just found the tail lite wires under the seat and behind the tool kit compartment and with a multitester found which wires were for the brake bulb and cut those and spliced into them with the sensor wires. i did notice tonite that my givi lite wasnt working and i think that it has to do with the clearance space between sensor on the givi box and the sensor it mates to on the mounting rack. the diagram shows removing the knockout plate with hammer and hollow pipe to set the sensor in. i found it harder to knock out and drilled it out. but drilled it too large so we had to seat the sensor in epoxy and my clearance tolerance may not be right. but love my box and like the brake lite, just need to get it working again! jet

loose wire fixed on the top box. works great and lites up like a nuclear reactor at nite! holds lots of stuff. highly recommended. jet

Jet and Bear,

I am sure that the Givi e52 is very functional, but how does it look on the back of the beautiful V-Strom? I was thinking about getting one, but am concerned about how it will look without the side bags. I am afraid I will look like I am riding around with a giant pumpkin on the back of my bike. Also, is the backrest comfortable for a passenger?

Thanks,
Fator

I have an E52 Maxia with the stoplight kit, plus 2 E41 side cases. The bike looks great! Also, my wife loves it when I have the top case on because it acts as a great back rest!

If I knew how to upload a picture, I would, check out the Album section maybe to see my bike!

guest, i like its looks -much preferring top box to side cases. the top box is much easier to access and holds tons of stuff. with my riding jacket and helmet, i think i'd miss the storage capacity with a smaller box. but then i dont have side bags. jet

Howdy all,

I just mounted the E52 on the back of my new DL1000 - I think it looks good with the E360's, and between all the cases, I can carry a bunch of stuff!! :D

Trooper, damn those bags look NICE! I gotta have some! How much did all 3 plus the mounting brackets cost you? Will I need to wait for Christmas? :D :D

Do you have the taillight option with the topcase?

I just got my 52 today. Great! Only problem I have is how does the wire lead from the bike connect to the box? It looks as though it should "click in" or something but nothing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If your E52 has the brake lights installed, there is a connection jack on the bottom (two metal connectors in a small circle).

You will probably have to install the other side of the connector in the mounting baseplate. You will have to punch out the hole where it goes - a socket on a extension and a hammer worked for me. Then you'll have to fish the wire down to the brake light bulb wiring to splice in into the wires so it will all work - I used the provided quick splice connectors.

If my memory is correct, there are 3 wires to each bulb, you want the Black with White stripe (ground), and White with Black stripe (brake)

Hope this helps,
Bob S.

I'm considering getting one of these cases. Are lights standard, or is there just an optional brake light? How difficult is it to hook up the wiring for the lights? How easy is it to remove the case, and is it more difficult to remove with the lights and wiring. thanks.

One more question....Has anyone got the optional passenger backrest for this case, and if so, what's your impression.

It helped alot. Looked at the baseplate in the light and could easily see where the knock out circle was. Spent about 15 minutes splicing wires and voila, topcase is lit up nice and bright!

Cool deal - glad it's working - I've had a couple of riders behind me say that they can't miss me getting on the brakes - the Givi lights are very bright. :D

You can buy the E52 with or without the lights installed from the factory - and you can add them to a case that doesn't have them installed.

The wiring connection is pretty easy - deciding on how you want to fish the wires to the brake lights is the question. Some folks drill a hole under the mounting braket - others fish it between the rear fender & seat.

To remove the case with or without brake lights, it's a simple "turn key - press button - lift off". I can go from 3 givi cases on the bike to no cases on the bike in less than 30 seconds.

I bought mine from these folks - great people to deal with...

http://www.rlmotorcycles.com/

They have the E52 with the lights installed for about $28.00 more - to add the lights latter will cost about $46.00.

Take care,
Bob S.

No - I don't. I read in other reviews that some folks thought it took away too much space from the passenger area - others said that the passenger liked just the plain case, no backrest.

On a related note, the instructions Givi sends are not that great - but the way they show the mounting brackets are not the best for passenger room. If you turn the front bracket around you will gain about a 1/2" more room. You can see it here...
