Like most 12v auxillary power users, I wanted to purchase and install what I felt was the best 12v socket on to my bike. I purchased the "V-Strom 12v Powerlet" kit from an aftermarket company. I installed it per instructions.

Then, I went to try and use it....... Nothing here in the U.S. will fit into the socket. Unless you ALSO purchase adaptors that will plug into the Powerlet socket that will accept what we here call "normal" 12v plugs, or cut off the OEM plug from the device you are trying to use and connect a Powerlet adaptor in its place.

I was headed out on a trip last Fall, (the first with my new GPS), and I needed to plug my GPS into a 12v outlet. The Powerlet wouldn't work unless I purchased an adaptor. I ordered one. And waited........ And waited......

It didn't arrive in time. Literally an hour before I left on my trip, and before I left the boat yard, I dashed into our stockroom and purchased a Marinco 12v outlet, (Part # 12VRCRV). This is the same unit that we install on your Hinckley yachts.

The biggest challenge was where to install it. I already had the Powerlet socket mounted into the left shroud and didn't really want to put anything else there. I studied the Marinco outlet in my hand, I looked at my bike and said, "I think it will fit here." I reached out and shoved the outlet down through the left "cable wicket" connected to the triple tree. Perfect fit!!! No drilling!

I disconnected the power lead connector from the Powerlet socket. I grabbed a few connectors out of our electrical department, (shhhhh, don't tell....... Jared, please don't tell.........), and made a "pigtail" of sorts.

This 10" pigtail drops off of the Marinco socket and plugs into the the Powerlet lead. If I ever need to use the Powerlet socket, I reach under the shroud and disconnect the pigtail from the connector and plug the connector into the Powerlet socket.

Simple and it works.

PS: I have never used the Powerlet socket. I always use the Marinco one. GPS, Air compressor, Cell charger.

This is wonderful... thanks so much for taking the time to post this up!

Since I don't have the Powerlet lead I was searching for other ways to hook it up and found out that there's a similar unused lead on all Stroms in place for the OEM heated grips that some have used for the their 12v. It's located behind the radiator. Example here: http://www.stromtrooper.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14547

I'm going to try to hook one of these up tomorrow.

Thanks again!
