Guards, Stand, etc have arrived from TwistedThrottle!

At long last, the order I played back at the start of June has arrived!

Twisted Throttle sent it USPS, but I still had to pay almost $60 in GST and PST, plus a $5 handling charge... still better than UPS to Canada!

In the box, Givi engine guards, SW Motech center stand, footpegs for the engine guards, a power outlet, and some twisted throttle stickers!

You know what I'll be doing tonight :)

If anyone has any hints/tips for those particular items on my Vee, to make the job much easier, let's hear them!

If it's the Powerlet left front panel power outlet for V-Strom, install it before you install the GIVI engine guards. DAMHIKT. :mod2_stupid:

Ok, I've got the center stand on, and I have a couple quick questions... (It's the SW Motech center stand)

1. Both springs go on the same posts together, right?

2. Is there a certain orientation for the springs? ie, open end up or down?

3. In the up position, how close should the stand be to the rear tire? I've got all 4 spacers in the proper position, and it seems like it's closer on the right side than the left (About an inch on the right, 1.5 to 2 inches on the left)... Can anyone verify that this is correct?

That is pretty cool...

I went with the handlebar mounted outlet... no real reason why, I just liked it at the time I was ordering it...

Still curious about the spacing on the center stand... It's about 1/2 inch from the tire on the right side, and 1.5 inches from the tire on the left side... Doesn't rub at all though... And the center stand works perfectly.

Got the Givi engine guards on last night as well... was fairly easy... a couple things I found... there is a tube that needs to be inserted between the two sides in front of the engine... they mention this in step C... after you've fastened the guards down in step B. So had to loosen off one side and insert that tube... Also, in step A, they tell you to fasten the triangle shaped mounting piece loosely to the engine guard, and tighten it after it's fastened to the bike... I couldn't see any easy way to tighten it once it was on the bike, so I snugged it up so I could still turn it, fastened the guard to the bike, used a black marker to mark the position of the triangle shaped mounting piece w.r.t. the tube, then took it off and torqued it down nicely. Then put the guard back on. Still figuring out where exactly I want to mount the forward pegs, but I think I've almost got that one figured out.

You may want to silicone that center piece on the Givi engine guards, they are known to collect water and rust if you don't.

Oh great, do I have to take it back off for that, or can I just rub silicone around where it joins?

You can probably do it by spreading some black rtv on the seam. I took mine out and put the silicone around the inside.

Ok... well, it's not like it was that hard to remove/install them... I have a tube of silicone so I'll just go that route.

Still curious about the center stand, if anyone has any experience with this...

I installed foot pegs on the engine guards, and must say I'm quite happy with the placement... The pegs I got are extremely adjustable, and at just the right height to be comfortable...

I also would like to mention that the right tools have made these jobs so easy... torque wrenches, hex sockets, etc... And putting the center stand on before doing everything else was also the right move, since I was then able to pop it up on the center stand to work on everything else!

The right leg of the stand is closer in than the left. Spring orientation doesn't seem to matter with the SW-M stand. I've never seen anyone post a problem about it.

It's interesting to see a stand that still has some black on the bottom of the legs.

Haha, it's funny you say that... If you look at the left one, it's already half scraped off in that picture, and that was from putting on the stand ONCE on my smooth garage floor! I'm sure they're probably scraped off completely already, after only a few stand ups on pavement... Haven't looked closely since that day.

I'm really curious about the foot pegs you got. Could you post a picture and link to the product you purchased? I'm trying to find some highway foot rests and this sounds like a good solution.
