Well, this may not be of any help really. As you know, test drives are usually not allowed. They finally agreed to let me go about 2 miles since I was seriously considering this new 1998(9?) Bandit 1200. Got a speeding ticket on my test drive (60 in a 40). I still bought the bike. I knew within a month that it was a mistake. It was not a bike for me. I wanted a more "sit-up" standard bike. At the time only a Honda 750 Nighthawk (boring) and a BMW R1100R ($) were also considered. I wound up buying the BMW before selling the Bandit!
Service experience? 1st service went well. No big deal. A few weeks later, the engine developed a slight oil leak on the top of the engine. When I went to have them check that out, the mechanic sprayed some brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner on a rag and wiped his greasy hands off. Then, WITH RAG IN HAND, this bearded guy proceeded to light his cigarette... AND THE RAG IGNITED IN HIS FACE! I said, "I guess you won't be doing THAT again, huh!" He was not amused.
I bought my Strom from Saugus Suzuki (I think the Uncle of the owner at VN). Since I've only had a 1st service done there, and they don't know what the "idle hammer" is caused by, I can't really say a lot about them either. They DO have the Yosh Box though. Worked great for my bike.
