Reprogramming ECM

Not that I am intending to do so, I am just curious. While searching for a V-Strom on e-bay, I ran across several ads touting a programmer to reprogram the brain on the Stroms. Anyone have any experience with this? I've seen pretty amazing performance gains on diesel pickups but not much difference on gas cars and truck. I am just curious if there are any real gains to be had on a Strom.

It's unusual for 650s to improve much. 1000s can often benefit because the older engine design is really lean for emissions purposes.
