hi guys,
well, finally got to set on and view a v-strom up close and personal. had to drive an hour and half, but visited a great dealership, met some great salespeople and had a general GREAT time. after visiting a good dozen dealerships all over central florida where everyone seemed to be number oriented it was refreshing to visit a dealership where they actually seemed like they wanted to hear what u had to say and gave their honest opinions and didnt try to bash everyone elses products.
NOW!! the strom fit me perfect!!! its was a 1 k. after sitting on it and looking it over i checked out the price tag, noted it said 04 v-strom. $8999.00. hmmmmm. i brought this to thad the salesmans attention. he said yes they had recieved it from suzuki. it had been used as a display bike at a couple shows. it had 26 miles on it and had a few knicks and scratches on it that thad said it had gotten rolling around the shop, being moved etc.
he assured me i could count on at least $1000 off the retail price and felt like they would go a considerable amount more. i am told the bike has never been titled. other than paint on the frame in a couple paces looking just a tad faded everything else looked spot on. chain looked brandnew, tires still had tits on them except in the part of the tread that actually makes contact with surface.

what do u guys think of this deal? it also includes suzuki factory hand protectors. should i be happy with $1000 off? or should i offer, say 6500? 7000? 7500?
would love to hear any thoughts u guys mite have. oh...i also mentioned the back farting skipping burping thingy u guys mention alot in here. he said if it was problem the dealership would stand behind. the sales man actually was aware of it as he rode a sport bike with same engine...just tuned different. he also had his remapped and it ran alot better. the dealership has a yosh box and knows how to use it.
lemme have it guys!

I picked up an '04 left over last month for $7600, Donnie. It had 1 mile on it, and was in pristine shape. I'd think that for a 'used' showpiece with some scratches, etc on it.... they'd let it go for less. Like with mine, it depends on how long it has been available, how many people are genuinely interested in it (besides yourself, that is) and if they are trying to move it quickly or not. I'd offer them no more than $7k myself, tops.

Also, go have a chat with the service manager to make sure they will make it right for you, if you have any issues with it. Oft times, the dealer will make promises the service dept won't keep.

Good luck and hope to see you post back as an owner!!

hi gegner
would that be out the door or would u still let them tag on freight, sales tax and registration? my thought is if they dont get right i'll prolly wait on an 06 wee strom. course.....with our gas situation i have a feeling the days of deals on cycles may be few. only time will tell what our crazy countrymen will do. i can say since mid week last week when they started talkin about gas shortages and higher prices i am seeing a WHOLE lot more bikes and scooters out!!

Hi again, Donnie

I got mine out the door for $8336. Good point on the present gasoline situation.... that may indeed cause some grief at the dealerships for potential owners. I hadn't really thought of it in those terms.. I guess I got lucky in retrospect!

Just feel them out, see how far they will move. I visited the dealer I bought from without intending to buy. I was just looking... they offered, I countered, they offered lower, I countered. They said they were at rock bottom, I said thanks anyway and went to look at the accesories. The salesman hunted me down with the price that swayed me... his comment was "sometimes you have to just cut your losses and move 'em". It was a good deal for my area and I slapped down the money on the spot.

I talked to him later on that week, and he stated that 3 people showed up later that afternoon intending to buy it..... so timing is everything sometimes.

Even with the present gas situation, I'll bet there are dealers sitting on some deals.

Good luck on the hunt!!
