I'm leaving Friday to join AK riders on their Alaska Ladies Tour, and I'll be riding a 650K8.

Not my own bike, but I don't have the time to get out there from New York now, and it looks like a fun trip. No kids, husband, cooking, cleaning, working...just riding and having a great time!
I'm getting psyched! :)

Start out in Anchorage, head north past Fairbanks. Farthest north is
Chena Hot Springs.
About 1000 miles in a week, maybe more.

You'll have a great time. Anchorage is absolutely beautiful. Hopefully you'll have time to explore the town. Fairbanks is so-so, but the road between the two, past Denali, is nice. Hopefully the weather gods will smile on you and you'll be able to see the big mountain. Apparently, only 20% of the people who visit get to see the mountain.

When I was up there, I couldn't see McKinley at all. Then, when I started to head south to Anchorage I looked in my rearview mirror and there it was!

Have fun, ride safe. If you meet up with our friends who are currently touring Alaska, say hi. Bill is on a tricked out black KTM Adventure 990, Susan is on a nice little light blue BMW F650GS.

On your way from Fairbanks out to Chena Hot springs look north about 7 miles down Chena Hot Springs road and wave. You'll be passing my place.

I'll look for your place.
Actually, the day we go to Chena, we're only riding about 65 miles. It's kind of a rest day - relax in the hot springs. But I might want to do some more riding, we'll see.
Any suggestions?

I 'm back from Alaska, and the trip was better than I ever imagined!
Awesome scenery, great food and company, and over 1300 miles of riding.
I can't wait to go back.
I have to figure out how to post pics, and show you all. It was THE BEST!:p

I got some pictures onto photobucket so now I'll try to post some.

I guess if you click on any of these, you can look at all the pics I posted. I took more than what's up there, but there are a lot. The hi-viz yellow jacket is me.

It was hard not to stop everywhere. The pics don't do the scenery justice though.

It works! This is Valdez Harbor. Spectacular 360 degree view of the mountains.

Somewhere on the Denali Hwy, I think.

Hi,

I'm so happy to hear that you carved out time from your busy life to take the time to experience a trip like this. I lived in Valdez for a short spell & those high poles really help you stay on the road in the winter months.

Did you get a chance to travel down to Seward? Fantastic scenery if a bit crowded. Could you post a few photographs if you did. How about Whittier or Homer?

Glad to hear that you had a wonderful trip!

Hey Sportydog,
I didn't get to those spots, but I heard Homer is beautiful. One of the women on the trip arrived early and rode down to Homer on her own. She loved it.
If I had more time I would have kept the bike a few more days and kept on exploring.

We started out in Anchorage and did a big circle up to Fairbanks, past there some, and then back south on the Richardson Hwy.
I'd love to get back there with my husband on our bikes, but that's a lot of time for him to take off work.

So much riding for ATV's too! I'd love to take the family out there, rent a camper and some ATV's and just hang out along the Glenn Hwy and ride!
