DL650 is a great platform, and I do not mind having to buy certain items to make it "my bike". However, two things would make this the perfect bike: electric windshield (gee, you have one on the Burger 650) and shaft drive.

I can live without an electric shield and definitely without the shaft drive. I really enjoy the simplicity and reliability of the wee.

Too restricting, I often change my front sprocket depending on the day's riding. 14 tooth if I'm going to be off road as the lower gearing makes it easier to go through the rough stuff and sand. 16 tooth if it's all interstate as it improves millage a little and drops the RPM at crusing speeds.
Being able to easily change gearing (less than 20 min) makes the bike vastly more versitle than the shaft drive allows.

I wouldn't mind a belt drive. Never had one though and not sure how well it would work in offroad situations. For the street it would be nice, quiet, and smooth.

I had a shaft drive on a crusier and was ok with it, but I love the V-Strom as it is or with ABS (when I buy my new one) It's a decent bike as it is, leave well enough alone. :)
