Dear All,

I am considering purchasing a DL1000 but would like to have some input regarding the longevity of the "Suzuki Composite Electro-chemical Material" which is used to line the cylinders. I am planning on putting many thousands of miles on this bike and would like to hear from any long-term V Strom owners if they have had any failures of this lining and how many miles you have on your bike. Thanks for the help.

28,400 miles and bike is running better than ever. No problems. Some guys are approaching 50,000 miles and some have more than that. The bike seems to be able to do 100,000 miles without any problem.

~38,000 miles on my '03 DL1000, strong, fast, and the only oil lost comes out of the drain plug when I change it.

I'm not sure about the V-Strom, but BMW has used Nikasil cylinder liners for a long time without problems so I would not worry about these high tech coatings in the modern engines. :D

ya' just do not purchase a car from BMW with the Nikasil engines...Most have been recalled due to some chemical reaction killing compression in the engine before it hit 100K miles...I think the majority of the motors with this issue where the 8 cylinder 5 & 7 series autos...
