This is an awesome bike, but if your buying it new, don't beat around the bush on whether or not to get a Power Commander... JUST DO IT!!!! Try working it into the deal with the dealer... It's basically a buy it now or buy it later after some disappointment with performance below 4K RPM...
If your not convinced, do your research and read the forums like this...
I just hate to see someone buy a new bike and be disappointed with it right from the git-go.

I'll almost agree with that. My DL1000K5 is stock and I can live it. I ride daily and maybe cringe about once a week because of a 3K RPM hicupp. Maybe when I get better and demand more from the bike I'll relent and get a PCIII or get with the guy on the other forum renting out the yosh box.
So far the once in ahwile hicupp is the only negative for me, and the rest of the bike's performance makes up for it grandly.
But I am getting better so who know's.

I certainly agree.i have owned my 05 for a month and have 5k miles ...so like the way it rides.
Now marndo spend 25$ and get teka box remap for the lower and mid range ....the bike absolutely rips now

my recently purchased '03 has one installed. It is a much smoother bike than my 1100GS ever was.

I'll bet that my bike runs as well if not better than your PCIII tuned bike, and I spent $33 dollars for a remapping. Saved the rest of the money that I didn't blow on the PCIII, on a new helmet!! Glad to hear that your happy with your bike though! :D Makes more sense to me, to try and get the dealer to remap with a yosh box "if they have one", and include that into the deal.... 8)

If it's anything like my tiller, just re-map and sync the TPS and it should be good to go. The PC works well too, just another solution to the problem.

does remapping get rid of the govern?

The governor is related to the secondary throttle plates, while in top gear at a pre-set rpm level the ecm will take control of the secondaries and start closing them limiting the amount of air which in turn is measured by the ecm so it also reduces the fuel delivered.
Remove the secondary throttle plates and the ecm will still try to close them but the measured air flow is still high so fuel isn't limited and the bike will roll beyond the previous limit.
My 1000 was previously held to a gps speed of 118-120 (weather, road conditions) and wouldn't pull to redline in 5th, without the secondaries I have found 141 (gps) at over 9200 rpm (the bike defintely isn't stable at these speeds like the GSX-R is) with better throttle response and no issues including no change in fuel mileage.
