Last year my daughter borrowed my little tow man tent. She brought it back intact with all the parts except the bag it goes in.
Where can we get these kind of bags to carry a tent in?
Thanks,
Tom

What the heck happened to the bag?
You could check with the manufacturer and see if they'll give/sell you a replacement. Or like Tom suggests, they make a ton of different compression sacks. Go to a local outdoor shop and peruse their selection.

Of course, that question was asked severely for a while.
I'll look at both of your suggestions.. thanks!

Don't most folding chairs come with a bag? It may fit in one of those... instead of buying a new bag, although it may be too long.
You could even try a sleeping pad (like a Therm-a-rest) bag.

That's a good point.. I have some of those at home so I'll check into the fit.

now you just need a storage tube to put it in

Now THAT'S a great thought!
Is anyone selling ready to bolt-on-looks-like exhaust storage tubes for the DL650?

Dear V-Tom,
I have a spare bag, but I do not know if it will fit your tent.
My 6'x6' tent rolls up into a package 19 inches in circumference, including poles and pegs.
My 7'x7' tent rolls up into a package 23 inches in circumference, including poles and pegs.
The smaller tent (in its own bag already, eh?) slides right into the spare bag, but the larger tent really does not want to squash down enough to go inside the spare bag.
The bag is sturdy black canvas with sufficient length, a drawstring, plastic squeeze-bolt to cinch the string, carrying handle, and shoulder strap, in other words ideal ... but only if it fits. It's yours if you want it; I have no use for it, until of course I give it to you and my daughter borrows my smaller tent and loses its bag ... c'est la vie.
I can bring it to your shop sometime after May 5, which is a Monday.

Have you got an old pair of pants? Cut the leg off one and sew the cut end shut. Bam, instant tent bag.
Also, I think Helen Two Wheels makes something for this.

Keith: I look forward to seeing you again! I hope we can get some riding time in!
I don't normally work Mondays so check with me ahead of time as I might be covering for one of the other guys that day. Are you going to be around southern Ontario for a while? The week after I'll be heading down to the Gap for the meet at the Iron Horse.
There have been many great solutions for the tent bag.. I have to find the tent and see if it works in one of the Foldign Chair bags. If not, I'll check into some Pant legs (Thanks iron_llama!)
I would hate to see you lug an extra bag around with you all the way from the sunny south. I'd much rather see your helicopter farkel!

Dear V-Tom,
Your replacement bag is now in use, containing the bag that contains my small tent. Understand, this is just so I do not forget to bring it to you.
My wife and dog and I will head north from Sarasota FL very early in May, stopping in Eastern PA so my wife can visit relatives in NY. I reckon we will reach GTA by May 8, but that is merely a guess.
We will be travelling in our minivan, towing a trailer bearing the Wee-Strom and perhaps another bike, along with some cargo for offspring in Toronto. This is an old story; the trailer has been to Ontario so often it knows the way, so I could send it alone if it could just learn to be polite to the Customs agents.
I like the pant-leg idea. Jeans wear out in lots of other places first, don't they? I like sewing, and I know I can turn pant-legs into useful bags very easily. When you first contemplate sewing a zipper into something, the prospect appears complicated and daunting, but it is one of those things that is easier than it looks. Generally I sew the zipper to a couple of pieces of fabric, zip the zipper closed, trim the result to the shape I need, and then treat what I have as a simple piece of fabric. Of course, the bonus is that I can sew the entire container wrong-side out, then open the zipper and turn it right-side out.
Yes, we will ride together, and perhaps repeat the jaunt to that restaurant near Port Perry. Turnout was sparse, but the bikes that showed up were very interesting.
This morning I will take the enormous box and its verandah off the bike and return the luggage rack to its stock appearance. I will even take off the black paint, which has got badly scarred since I put it on last fall. 2006 = silver rack; 2007 = black rack. Big deal. It's tricky to get the rubber pad off, and a bit more tricky to get it back on, but sufficient lubricant and persuasion and patience do the job.
Back to work ...

This bag has become a little pricey over the few years - got mine for $15 in 2002, but it's a compression stuff sack that's waterproof and breathable:

Works awesome.

Looks like a nice bag, but I can buy a new tent for $29.95. I think it would be overkill for what I need.
Thanks, though.

Hi Keith,
Nice seeing you again!
Thanks for dropping off the tent bag.. it fits perfectly!
For my trip to the gap I had it in a sport bag and that worked well but it is so much nicer to have it in a proper bag.
Thanks again!

just get a stuff sacke long enough to fit the folded up poles into. they make many different diameters in the same lengths so roll up your tent around the poles and measure the circumfrance then divide that by pi and take the square root of that to get the radius. mutiply that by two to get the diameter of the bag you need. good luck

I use a "Dry Bag" to carry my Tent, Fly, ground tarp, sleeping bag, and thermarest pad along with a down vest that can double as a pillow. Most tent manufacturers will tell you to stuff, don't fold, the tent in whatever bag you use. I line the dry bag with the deflated thermarest and stuff everything else down inside. It makes for a perfectly waterproof bag that is easy to lash down on the rear seat of the DL650. All very contained and secure for about $30. You will need a bag of about 70-80 liters to handle it all if you pack it like I do.
