Here is a quickie review of the Scorpio alarm system, which I have just installed on an '05 Wee Strom. Not very conclusive, but some key points I thought I would share.

System Components:

- Base Module
- Permiter Sensor
- Ignition Kill (Anti-Hijack)
- 2-way Pager
- All wires and quick connects (base install)

Optional Component:

- Suzuki V-Strom OEM connector

Caveat:

The SUZ-4 (OEM connector) recommended for the V-Strom DOESN'T fit the '05....looks like Suzuki may have changed the connectors. Have sent a note to the manufacturer and will post a follow-up once received.

Installation:

- Time required: 30 minutes
- Tools required: pliers, stock tool kit

Installation was a snap (I haven't installed the anti-hijack module yet, as it started to rain.

Getting to the wires is quite easy, only having to remove emove the seat, luggage rack and rear plastic light housing (4 hex bolts, two allen bolts). I used the Generic connection kit, as the OEM kit ordered doesn't fit the stock connectors (am chasing this as noted above). The main module fits nicely behind the tool kit under the seat and the wires are long enough to route properly. I might move the system under one of the side panels, however, so that I can tuck all the wires away more neatly.

The ignition kill system is another story...finally got it installed though...took the side cover off to get to the wire bundles and removed enough tape to get to the O/W wire that leads to the ECM. Put the ignition kill module in line there and taped it all back up (I decided to solder the connections, rather than use the supplied butt connectors (paranoid about the connection coming loose while riding).

The system worked the first time around. Be prepared - when you first plug it all in, the 130 dB siren will chirp which, when unexpected, may make you jump back like it did me.

Pros:

- System does all that is advertised

Cons:

- OEM connector doesn't fit '05 model
- Pager remote plastic doesn't seem too rugged
- Ignition kill a bitch to install

Does anyone know if a factory connector kit is available yet for the Scorpio? I have a DL1000 05.
Thanks

HI, I just removed my Scorpio from my 82 CBX and installed in on my 06 DL650. I had used the universal wire connectors on the X, but called up Scorpio maker and ordered the Suzuki connector. They told me on the phone that the connector was listed for the DL 1000 weren't sure about the 650. I got it anyway and it worked fine. The alarm works great, I used it all the time on my X when I had to leave it on the street or parking lot.

Yep, I called Scorpio too and the connector model # is SUZ-7. It is just now being released for the 05-06 DL's.

I had installed the Scorpio alarm back in September and ran into the situation with the connectors not being appropriate. Scorpio asked me to provide pics of the connectors on the bike ('05) and they supplied a new one within a matter of days. Overall the unit installed easily. I am very pleased with the product and really appreciated their great customer service.

My only recommendation for improvement would be a more durable remote. I broke the antenna during the first week.

Dear Folks,

If you are depending on the Scorpio system to protect your bike, then make sure you are always within earshot of the siren. I parked my GSXR-600 in front of my apartment complex and the next morning it was gone. I checked the remote and it had gone off at 1:00 AM, while I was asleep. I asked all the neighbors and no one had heard a thing. I had slept through the beeper on the remote.

As far as the remote goes, the beeper isn't loud enough to hear unless you place it very near your ear. I had mine on the dresser at the end of the bed instead of the nightstand near my head, but I probably would have still slept through it's quiet beeping.

Also, the range on the remote is very poor. It says 1/4 mi. but I'd say it's more like 100 yards.

After my bike was stolen, I contacted the company and described its shortcomings, but their only response was that they would replace it for free if I returned the remote. Since I didn't have a bike to put it on, the reply seemed a little insensitive. Also, I wouldn't want to install another system unless they

1. Made the beeper a lot louder
2. Made the siren a lot louder
3. Increased the actual range to a real 1/4 mi.

If I sound bitter, I am. My system cost $300 and failed me when I needed it most.

I had one installed when I got my V. I also got low jack installed. I think with both of these and a lock on my rotor the bike will be quite safe. If they do take it, the low jack will find them quickly and bring them to justice.

I do hate the remote; it’s too big and delicate. I dropped it and the little plastic over the antenna broke right off. Now it just sits in the tank bag cell holder where I can press the buttons.
