Greetings!

You've got a new Stromtrooper here. I picked up a brand new black 2005 DL1000 on July 14th from Golden Gate Cycles in San Francisco. I really like the bike. I am glad that I didn't go in for a sport-only bike - figured I didn't need to grind footpegs like I did years ago.

I previously owned a Yamaha in the 70's and then a Suzuki in 70's and 80's, both 2 stroke street bikes with performance modifications to the engines. I retired the Suzuki in early 90's with the intention of quickly buying another bike, but it took me a while!

I put the first 148 miles on the bike through mostly stop-and-go driving around industrial parks, getting my "bike legs" back and relearning how to attach a turn or curve. Then I put 403 miles on the bike Saturday the 23rd. I went up highway 4 into Nevada and came back by highway 80. Of course the next morning I didn't have enough grip strength to turn a door nob with one hand. However, this bike has the most comfortable seat I have ever experienced!

Things have gotten a little hectic at work, so I am not riding as much as I would like. But hey, I finally got my new bike!

Last weekend rode the loop of hwy 108-Sonora pass-hwy 395-hwy 88 monitor pass-hwy 4 Ebbitts pass..About 350 mile or so..With a buddy who is riding my ole Bandit12N. The Bandit being an absolutely beautiful black neked beast of a bike I sold cause I kept meeting Jesus in the corners. And he had a personal message for me !!!

Leading me to the sweetest lil ride I ever threw a leg over in my 6-fiddy..The only downside being it aint black..(couldnt find and 04)..And kinda dicey suspenders..Fixable..And my last ride discovered the OEM skins are less than inspiring on any pavement changes.. concrete to asphalt..or tar snakes..The latter not sure if any tire will defeat..But she is about due for new shoes anyway..Maybe try some dunlops :D

So the name is Bill..I am off work sundays and mondays if any other hooligans want to get dirty or just keep it tarmac..I am always up for a ride..

In another life I lived in Ceres, just south of Modesto - back in the 80's. I ran around on a Suzuki GT 550 with polished intakes/exhaust, KN filters, drilled piston skirts, 3-into-1 expansion chambered exhaust, etc. or an old beat-up '63 Ford stepside with holes in the roof and the floor board :!:

Spent a lot of time riding in the hills and mountains east of Mo-town, CA.

I'll have to take my VStrom back there some time.

Two weeks ago rode to the top of Sonora Pass Hiway 108. Cold on the way up, warmer coming back down. Wanted to do the full Bridgeport 395 to Ebbetts pass & back ride but didn't have the time.

Great season to ride in the Central Valley, though!

Well I got the bike early.

I saw a couple stroms at Alice's in La Honda (I think thats where it is, it was my first time down there) on Sunday. There was a 1000 and 2 650's. I didn't get a chance to talk to any of their owners though. The break in period is killing me, but I hope to be nearly through it by the end of the week.

Just hooked in to this site, on a new red DL650 couple weeks ago.
Up in Sonoma County, Was it f-n great this weekend. Rode Hwy1 from Tomales down to Stinson, was so gorgeous saturday had to do it again on sunday.
Man, must have saw 50+ bikers out ripping Hwy 1 today. A couple of them on v-stroms.

I am from Brentwood, ride my dl 650 to Milpitas and work every other week. I ride my ST1100 the following week. The ST is more comfortable but the DL is much more fun.
