View Full Version : Black reflective tape
Any feedback on where to buy black reflective tape - the stuff that shines bright white when shined upon? I'm looking for it to be in a 2" roll, not sheets.

Hello Sly,
I found a roll at a local fire safety house. It was relatively expensive.
Good luck.

Sly, did you look at the swing arm on MyStrom's DL1000?
He has exactly the tape you enquired about. Most of the time it looks black, but when bright light shines on it, it reflects bright white light.
You know where to find him.

Keith ~
Oh yeah, I saw it on MyStrom's bike - we had a lengthy discussion about it! The next question, then, obviously begs answering - "Why didn't you ask him were he got it?" I think I will plead the 5th on that, because ignorance is no excuse for the law (or so the Romans would have us believe:mrgreen:).
With that, I bid you ado, as I hustle to the PM feature herein!
See ya, Keith. Be safe on your upcoming ride to the ride to the... you get it!
BTW, my wife was quite touched (as was I) at the showing of sentiment and respect you exhibit regarding your mother.

Good idea, thanks. But, as Keith pointed out I had it within my grasp, yet allowed it to slip away (momentarily).

go to ebay motors type in vstrom in the search block and look for reflective rim tape. i think its was $20 for enough pre cut tape to do both sides of each wheel. they have many colors but the black tape is black and at night when light hits it it reflects gold. looks very good.
Thanks one and all for the links and other valuable info. I'm gonna try to wade through the different sites tonight to see if I can find that pefect match. I did find one site that offered tape in widths from pinstripe to 12", but the night time reflective value was not adequate - it shined a grayish color instead of the bright white I'm looking for.

I think I got mine from http://www.reflectivelyyours.com/
I've got it on my swingarm, lower part of the fork tubes, back of my mirrors, and the square parts of the frame above the crank case. I've got red 3M tape on the backs of my Givis. I've also got two thin stripes of the black to white around the base of my helmet.
Yeah, good idea w/ the helmet stripes. I told my wife I was going to do that to ours. More conspicuity has to better ones chances out there on the road with all those cagers - especially this time of year in Florida!!

All of their offerings are pre-cut for specific applications, except the very last item at the bottom of the list which is "cut to shape yourself".

Check with your local Sign shops.
Maybe you can get a roll end, or they sell you a decent size piece.
Here is my bike with relective white and black.
The star is white.
Swing arm, fork, stripes by star and hand guard are black

Another good source for reflective tape and other bike safety material is bikerhiway.com (http://www.bikerhiway.com/reflective-gear-tape-decals-reflective-motorcycle-safety-tape-kits-c-70_33.html) I got tape from them and a good deal on the Stebel airhorn too.
