With rumors flying - it is time for the 3rd annual V-Strom-Only BBQ Ride-to-Eat (RTE). :D

Place - probably to Glen Rose (haven't been to Hammond's in a while) during the month of March. There are a bunch of other rides planned in April, Easter is 3/23, and many Spring Break weeks are the week before Easter.

Soooo, How about shooting for Saturday, 3/8? Hammond's in Glen Rose.
Maybe 11:30 AM so we can be a little ahead of the lunch crowd...

Here's the deal: 2 years ago, three of us Texas Baby Boomers (Bill - Graubart, Jack - reverendbiker, and me) from the forum here (also on TWT) conspired together to meet in a neutral area between DFW and Georgetown to enjoy some BBQ after a question about Hammond's BBQ was posed. Kurt (kurt1305) also has joined us for these.

The Thread on TWT is here (http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24869). Need to round up the usual V-Strom suspects from Stromtroopers...

2-3 of us from Killeen are interested. We all have 2007 DL650s bought before Christmas. Two are Motorcycle Instructors at Ft Hood (not me). Two are over 60, one is over 40. Sounds like fun. Probably head up 281 from Lampasas. Let me know the final plans.

Thanks

Sounds good, count me in. I rode to Glenn Rose for barbeque with 4 other Strommers last year, I think the same place. Good food, good roads. There may be an obligation or 2 on Sunday afternoons in March regarding my parish, not sure yet, but I'll know then.

Great. We'll have a pretty wide range of ages and probably several different bike types (crashers! ;) ). There are some KLR riders in DFW that are itchin' to go.

281 is the straight way - jog east a bit in Hico and take 220 up to US67 to cryuise into Glen Rose.

To take some good roads - jog over to 36 from Hamilton or Gatesville and take 182, 219 west, and then 1238 to 927 in Iredell. Take 144 thru Walnut Springs and then 203 to US67. US 67 eastbound will put you past Hammonds. If you have time, try west on 67 after 203 and take the best part of 51 up to 205 and then 205 east to Glen Rose. Hop on 67 eastbound to the restaurant.

182, 219, 1238, and 51 are some of the best twisties in this region.

Lots of good road options from your area. Enjoy! Check your maps - The Roads of Texas is a great resource.

Juan - we haven't been able to connect yet - hope you can make it. It's on a Saturday, so hope that works for ya.

Only 2 plan to go. The lady has reserve duty that weekend. We plan to go through Hico to check a leather shop (HD?) in town and the Brushy Bill story. Of course if the March weather comes in like a lion it may change our plans. We are definately interested to talk anyone who has done more off-roading than the typical Texas country roads (e.g. around Regency). I don't expect it to be anywhere near my KLR but that's obvious. Our intial impressions of the DL650 are highly favorable. The recent winds have not made a joyous ride. Don't know if a CalSci or Cee Baileys will help or increase the wind problems.
Enough for now. See y'all on 3/8.

Looks like I can make it! I overlooked the 3/8 date mentioned but I'm free to ride that day. See y'all then!

I'm adding a list of riders over on the TWT thread now (see post #1).
There should be a couple of Austin-Georgetown riders.

Hey, now remember 4 V-Strom riders will be crusing the Hill Country March 15th to 20th.
Meeting a V-Strommer in College Station, don't know where we will take us for those 5 days, but if it's close it would be great to meet a few of you guys.

Well, when you find out where you will be, post it here. The Hill Country is a bit far from me but there might be other options...

Sure will, just where are you located? I know we arrive the 15th in College Station, leave fir Hill Country the next day for 4 days and have 1 day free because my budy have to get back to work at the Fire College the 20th. I though we might do a ride anywhere, so who knows where we may go. I know we have to be back at CS on the 20 because of resverations for the return trip home. So as of not we have the 19th we could be anywhere, but as you know that can change in a senior moment.

I'm in Arlington which is on the southwest side of the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro-mess. Unfortunately, that is about 300 miles from the hill country. I'll be going near there on the last weekend of the month (29th) to ride to Corpus but probably won't make it that far south before then.

The hill country is some of the best riding in Texas, so enjoy!

Leaving a bit late - it was 26 degrees this morning. Going to take the straight shot to Glen Rose and the scenic route back.

Hope to see some more Stromtroopers there - let's park all the 'Stroms together!

There is a ride report over on TWT - we had 14 V-Stroms - I counted 8 650s and 6 1000s but I may have mis-labelled one or two...

Had 15 other bikes - total of 36 people.

Last year we had 3 yellow 1000s - I don't think I'll ever see that again...

Ride safe. I will have a few pictures when I return. Leaving Wednesday. Yeaaaaaa
