I hate to do it, but need a bit more dirt. 2008 Versys with just under 1000-miles. It has Vstrom hand guards, large OEM windscreen, Rear trunk and brackets. I still have the original screen and rails as well. It has a 2-year warranty. I would like $6000 or would entertain trades. Clean title in Albuquerque, NM.

im just learning about this bike yesterday and have been obsessed...i never rode a bike until about a year ago when i got the xt225...it's now just way too underpowered (obviously), but i only got that bike cause im only 5'5"! (im 20 years old :-\ )...but i see this bike has only a 1" raise in height over my xt225, and apparently their selling a seat to take it down even more!...would u say this bike is accessible for smaller people like myself? 5'5" 180 lbs (clothed)

Writerofwriters, my friend is your exact size and has owned his Versys for 12 months now (we got them early here in NZ). He took to his seat with the electric bread knife and shaved off about 30mm (easy to do, plenty of foam) and he can now get his feet down easy.

This is one GREAT bike, probably won't sell in large numbers because it's ONLY(!!) a 650 but it corners on RAILS after my friend fitted Avon Dstanzia (SM) tyres and he takes in on gravel roads EVERYWHERE.

The engine is superb also, possibly even better than the classic Susy 650 V-twin in some respects (but let's not start a war over that Please..)

BTW I have no Kawasaki shares, just giving my 02c. I personally own a DL1000 but if I was a smaller size I would be on a Versys.

Also great to see a younger guy with some common sense!!!

Sounds like a great plan to me. 2 bikes are better than one.

You're such a tease!

I was real serious about a Versys before they made their US debut. As I researched it, the Wee Strom comparison kept coming up. When a local dealer finally got a Versys, I went right over to check it out. After sitting on one, my enthusiasm dimmed a bit. The ergos were just ok and gauge cluster left me wondering. Since I was at the dealer, I decided to test sit a V-Strom. I sat on that thing and said - Wow, this is my bike!

Don't get me wrong, I think the Versys is a great concept and a great bike, the V-Strom just fits me better.

Speaking of fit - it's not how high the top of your head is, it's how low your crotch is. I'm 6.0' tall with a 34" inseam and can flat foot the bike with daylight between me and the seat. People who are 6.0' tall with a 30" inseam will find a stock V-Strom too tall and may have to tippy-toe on one foot.
So when you're talking about fitting a bike, it's all about INSEAM. The bike's seat height can be adjusted with different seats and other chassis adjustments. You can make it fit if that's what you want.

I think they are both great bikes and I was glad there was not a Weestrom there that day. I don't need a bigger bike than the 650 class.

It is nice to see some younger guys on these bikes. I either am an "old fart" or one of the "enlightened" ones as I bought my first DL1000 just after my 20th birthday and now have the DL650 at 22 and appreciate the bike a little more each time I ride it. The 1000 would give sport bikes fits off the line, I could keep up with many faster bikes in the twisties, hit the fire road for awhile, and then ride 600 miles in comfort reliably all in one day. Plus, have such great headlights that riding at night is a breeze. Oh, and one cannot discount the WTF is that? looks from other riders.:) It's also nice to have a bike that accumulates miles rather than the poseur sport bikes and cruisers that act like they're "serious riders" but in actuality put on 400 miles a year. The V-Strom/Versys, et. al are just bikes you ride in a quiet, non-bragging, non-pretentious demeanor that you just ride and ride, then ride some more.

yea, i was looking into the v-storms too, but most of them seem to sit pretty high too....you can take the versys down to 31" by just buying the kawasaki low gel seat alone....granted the v-storms are slightly more affordable and available ;) ...and yea, both bikes are awesome looking...and are certainly different from the pack....i just fell in love with the versys....im not a huge bike enthusiast, cause my parents were always opposed, but now i'm putting all into having one...and a 1000 would kill me...the versys 650 maxes like 115 (more than what I plan on doing for sure), and I heard nothing but good things about both these bikes...I live in s***hole Philly, so I want to be able to take it to jersey and all, and taking my little xt225 on the freeway is not only illegal (suppose to have a 250 minimum, but I rode through fine and even passed some cops), but the thing is a joke for any real riding like that....Going full force @ 80, and considering it weighs like 150 lbs, im getting blown all around on it
