I took a spill about 3 weeks ago on the V. I was following a car through a curve near the airport and ended up hitting a pile of plastic beads or fertilizer in the road. As soon as the front tire hit it I low sided going around 35-40 mph. The V had some scrapes and broken parts, but held up pretty well considering, which allowed me to ride the bike home afterwards. Luckily my knee :-( and my Givi side case racks prevented the bike from sustaining more damage.

Just a few words of wisdom for those that think they are invincible:

.5) There are two types of riders.
A. Those that have wrecked and
B. Those that are going to wreck or come extremely close!!!

1.) Wear your gear! (A Full face helmet saved my head and face when my head struck the pavement. An armored textile jacket saved my elbows and forearms from road rash. A pair of textile/leather gloves with thick plastic knuckles saved my hands from road rash.
-Blue jeans suck for protection!!! (I normally wear draggin jeans, but the day I wrecked I was wearing blue jeans and running shoes because it was such a beautiful day.....UGH!!! Big mistake (The jeans ripped like a piece of cheap toilet paper as soon as they touched the pavement).

2.) Maintain your following distance! (I had 4 seconds between me and the car which prevented me from seeing the shit in the road). If I were following 6-8 seconds behind like your supposed to we would not be having this conversation.

-Trip to airport for UPS 100 year celebration $ 12.00 w/ of gas
-Front fender, left knuckle guard, left side fairing and vent, left passenger and driver foot pegs, upper fairing. $1000
-Trip to ER for xrays, contusion and road rash to left knee, sprained left ankle, sprained right pinky finger and finger close to pinky $2750.38
-Being able to survive accident and give you all some words of wisdom $priceless$

Moral of the story:
Wear your gear every time you ride. You never know what is waiting in the next turn for you. Y'all be careful out there and enjoy the pics!

I'm goin riding! :-)

As you know, it could of been worse. I will deal with the constant questions about gear from the harley folks, I always wear it. Sorry about the bike, but it sounds as if you have her back together. When are we going to get together for a ride again?

Glad to hear you're on the mend.

My son just bought a used KLR 650.
He's 21 and lives inder my roof, so if he's gonna ride, he's gonna be protected.

He just went out to look at some gear: Helmet, jacket, pants, gloves and boots. Comes to about $1000.

Guess christmas came early, I'll happily foot the bill for the gear, thanks for the testimonial.

I got lazy a couple times and wore jeans out on my bike.
I won't make that mistake again

Be well, stay safe.

Glad you survived without major injury. Normally I wear JR 5.0 or Alter Ego pants. I have also worn JR Atomic jeans a couple times, they are far better than regular jeans. Real good to wear on a hot day.

Sorry to hear that. I know it hurts to wreck in two ways.......first yourself with injury then the fact that you wrecked the bike.

Just be thankful no trip to a hospital with your family standing over you wondering if you will come out of a coma. < :confused:Did I spell that right or is it comma? No.....<that is a grammar thing!
