Took the new gal (03 Yellow 1K) out for our first romp together yesterday. Road out of Yuma, AZ. to Q-Site, AZ. Long straight two lane. Had a cross wind. No problems, we got along great. From Q-Site up into Yarnell & Prescott AZ, lots of open desert & then LOTS of twisties We fell in love at this point. Then up to Jerome AZ & over to Cottonwood to get another Nat Park Stamp for my Iron Butt Association tour. Then back home over the same route. 498 miles on the gps 506 on the odo clock 10.5 hrs. This is a FUN bike! Planning on a long relationship. :D

Question: With stock tires & gearing, what are the RPM's at 60mpg? My tach sticks, but does move sometimes, I'm just not sure of the accuracy.

In 6th gear its around 3300... I think. There's not much flat land around here and its hard to hold her down to 60mph.

That surprises me that the 1000 and the 650 differ that much, I know that at 60mph in sixth gear I'm turning 4500rpm with my little beastrom.

Must do. The DL1000 is at 80mph just over 5000rpm in 6th. I usually run it at 80-ish in 5th, unless there are some long straights ahead.

I'm one of those people that is always trying to shift into 7th gear on my 650. It seems like it needs one.

Likewise....Thinking about going up 1 tooth on the countershaft or down a couple on the rear even.
