Street Triple is the 675 variant. It just got some press, and looks like a nice bike. What's the deal on reliability and Triumph? Have they solved some of their problems?

I would have found it more interesting if it came with the exact same suspension and brakes as the Daytona 675.

RE: reliability
What issues? I've been a Triumph RAT pack leader for 4 years and spent countless hours on Triumph web forums. Aside from the plastic fuel quick disconnect recall that affected nearly every Triumph with fuel-injection, they've been solid bikes. I put 43K+ trouble-free miles on my Sprint RS before selling it and that is pretty much the experience of everyone I know.

I know two people who have owned Triumph's. One had a catastrophic transmission failure. The other had numerous little problems, clutch cables breaking, leaking gaskets, etc. Neither of these guys were riding them very hard, and both felt like the bikes were on the back side of reliable. While two isnt a huge number, it is 100% of the first hand information I have about Triumph, ergo my question regarding reliability.

Small dealer network is a reliability issue for me, or most anyone. That Street Triple did get a GREAT review in the recent Cycle World however. Neat bike...I bet it is a blast to ride!!!!

There were issues nearly 10 years ago with (I believe) 4th gear going out, but that was several generations of engine back. No such issues that I'm aware of in anything made in 2xxxx.

There was a clutch cable recall on the Sprint ST circa 2001/2002. The old one would break, the new one didn't (any more than any other cable). There was also a recall on SSSA bearings in the Sprint from about that era.

Based on my own experience, those of my local RAT pack and the hundreds on the various web forums, Triumph reliability (at least on the triples) is as good as any Japanese brand. I wouldn't hesitate to ride any of the triples across the country and back. There will always be someone, somewhere with issues regardless of brand. No one is perfect.

Yes! Very interesting. I rode a Speed Triple at a recent rally. Great sound, and so light and nimble. I bet the 675 would be the perfect around towner.
