I don't have any details or even a route but during the Big Bear ride this past weekend it was generally agreed that the October ride would be in the San Diego area.

I was thinking of meeting in Temecula then heading over and around Palomar Mountain then down towards Julian. After that I'm pretty much lost but maybe someone can put together something from there that kinda leads us into San Diego.

I thought I'd start the thread early to try to build up interest and have a good turnout.

Anyone interested? Have ideas? Suggestions?

Sorry, been busy moving--what a PITA. Still a couple days left of cleaning/trash throw away and we are done.

I have a route that should keep everyone entertained... Meet up at the 76 and I-15--- over to Palomar Mtn, down the fast side-- back around to Julian via a few back roads I know. Then determine if you want the full ride back down to San Diego/southbay-- come up the coast and over the Coronado Bridge (hit Hooters for early dinner), etc.. and blast back up the 15.

It's about a 200 mile loop from the I-15/76 and back... Approx 3.5-3.75 hours of actual riding/seat time, overall time 5-6 hours.

Let me know what the 'collective' wants to do / see.

What date?

We don't have a date or a route yet. The idea RTDKOTA for a route sounds good to me. I'm not the expert in that area down there.

Throw out a Saturday date and we'll see how it shapes up around everyone else's schedule. October Saturdays are 6, 13, 20, 27 and any of the will work for me. Heck we can make it a Sunday if that's better for everyone

That sounds like my usual route I ride on the weekend when I need a good ride. Should be good. Nice scenery both to and from Julian as long as going out of Julian you take the right to the lake. Last time I saw a whole flock of turkey along the way and there are alot of good stopping points for those with a camera and an appreciation of the outdoors.

I'd be interested in joining you all for a ride and meeting some fellow stromers. I'm coming from North Orange County, but will ride anywhere to meet up.

Unfornately I read about this too late and my saturdays are all booked, except for Oct 27th. Otherwise, I can do any sunday ride. If you have to pick an earlier saturday to appease the "collective", that is okay, I'll catch you all another time.

Either way, have fun, that is a beautiful area, especially in the Fall!

Also consider riding down the "Glass Elevator" into Borrego Springs and then the back way into Julian. Take the 79 south from Temecula, turn left (east) on SR-2, then left (east) on the S22. It's a side street that can be easily passed with spirited riding. The S22 is about 25 miles long and pops you out into desert mtns with a steep, twisty road down. It ends at a stop sign in Borrego Springs, where you turn right. There are a few gas stations on the right to collect the group, fuel up, or get your wits back in order. Ride through town to a traffic circle and turn right (south) onto S3. Stay on S3 and it takes you to the 78. Turn right at 78 to head west and it will take you the back way to Julian with some wicked fun roads. Beautiful ride with everything from high plains and desert, back to the woods near Julian. Personally, it's much more epic and interesting than Palomar and MUCH longer.

Here's a yahoo map to get a better detail of what I explained. I mapped the route from Temecula to Borrego to Julian.

I'll be working at the Miramar air show on the weekend of 12-14, not sure which day yet. So another weekend would be better.

That seems to be the consensus date the 27th. I like the route so far too http://maps.yahoo.com/broadband#lon=-116.739349&lat=33.280028&mag=8

I'll likely head to the area on Friday after work and get a room.

Anyone from the Temecula area that has a suggestion on where we should all think about meeting to start the ride and for breakfast? Or, where to ride from Julian? I don't know the roads but it looks like our choices are to take the 78 into Escondido or the 79 and 76 to just South of Temecula.

Best would be to go to the 76 off the I-15 and start there. If it's a Saturday, I'll have to make arrangements as I watch my son on Saturdays while my wife works.

I'm racing up at Altamont Speedway the weekend prior, so I'll be glad to ride my bike again after that. Since it's so late in the season, I have a couple good ride ideas setup... includes riding into the desert for a stretch since the weather will be perfect. It'll be an 'A' ride for sure.

How many people are we talking about having?

Earlier start in the morning, the better.

You busy this Sunday? Want to checkout the route I am planning? There's some dirt involved-- as long as the area is open, I wanted to scout it out for everyone-- Should be very mild-- I am on Pilot Road tires even.

Let me know if you want to go, can meet up at the I-15/76 at Nessy Burger/Mobile station west of the 15.

I just read your post, I'm on a 1k and don't want to push it off in the gravel anymore. Tried it once, dented the ft cylinder down pipe going off a curb. If it would have been damaged in a spot that was visible, I don't think I would have forgiven myself.:p Also I've got some tires on order, Battlewings, supposedly longer lasting, better on road, and cheaper by $20. My front is bald right now. Try me after the 26th. I should be willing and more importantly able by then.

We did some riding last weekend -- there's plenty to see, and I think the longer 'desert' down and up from Julian would be great for everyone-- about a 250 mile loop--- plenty of places to stop, and check out the scenery, and the temps are down enough that it'll be in the mid 80s in the desert, 60s in the mtns.

I still plan on going!

I'm actually doing a ride down by Julian with another group this weekend. So I can give a report on road conditions and temps. when I get back. Should be beautiful down there with Fall in full force.

Change of plans... won't be able to make it. My mtn. bike group is doing our hardcore climb the 27th now and I've been training 6 months for it. I just did a ride all around Julian yesterday and it was beautiful. Perfect temps, clear sunny skies, very little wind... could not have been a better day for riding. Have fun out there next weekend and ride safe.

Well, SD might not be such a great place to ride after all.

We're on fire!

Tell me about it, I'm sitting right across the street from Little Mountain which is on fire too. It just burnt not to long ago, you wouldn't think there was anything left to burn:confused::(

Well so far so good in our area, the fire fighters (God Bless Them) were quick to put the fire out on our side and the north side was put out very quick also.
We should put the Oct ride on hold for know until we see how the others, especially those in the San Diego area, are doing.

There is no containment yet on the Witch Creek Fire which is right where we were talking about riding (Palomar Mountain, Julian). And it is a big one at 200,000 acres.

Well, looks like we're officially putting the October ride on hold. We'll have to try again for a ride somewhere before the cold cold oh so cold Southern California winter sets in

Well, things are openning up-- and there's a lot of places to still see, plus see some of the fire damage to the forests, etc.

I'm still planning on going, most likely an abbreviated 'tour' but we can still hit up what we can.

If you are still interested, drop me an email at srp@cox.net with your contact info, phone # and I'll contact you tonight (Friday).

I am checking local road conditions based on whats open, and whats closed--- and will be setting up the ride accordingly.

Any later date riding this season will most likely involve cold temps, and or mudslides in this area--
