I got it installed yesterday, but it wasn't without a couple of hitches. Took apart the stuff I needed to to get to the pipe. Measured and marked it off with with a couple of cable ties and cut the pipe with the sawzall. No problems there. Smoothed out the cut on the pipe with a file, then realized the new piece fits over the stock pipe and I didn't have to worry as much as I was. I was pretty nervous about the cut. I have only worked on car exhausts up to this point. You know the kind when things don't fit right you can hit them with a hammer. All looked well though. Pipe extension from scorpion fit perfect, muffler fit perfect. The hanger is a PITA to put together though you have a rubber protector that goes inside the hanger and when you tighten the hanger it slips around. Checked the connections and all was good. Let's start her up.

Sound is great not too loud but way louder than stock. Like a muffled dirtbike. This is great exactly what I was looking for. Checked the pipe for leaks and found a small one between the cut and the extension, so I shut it off and moved the clamp. I did this several times and finally the clamp decided to strip out. Crap, off to the autoparts store. Picked up some muffler repair tape and goop and new clamps. Got all that installed and now no leaks YEA!! I would reccommend, in order to avoid this, getting some muffler repair goop and putting it on the cut pipe during install. Tightened it all up and looks good no leaks. The bike ran a little rough for a bit then seemed to smooth out. I guess the ECU will learn as it goes.

One of the reasons I got the CF was the heat. I often have my GF on the back and I have swmotech racks for sidecases. After running the bike for 20 mins I checked it. If you put your hand on it it's like OMG that's freaking hot, but not melt the flesh from your hand hot. This was with the bike idling mind you.

Below are some pics and 2 sound files I took with my camera. One sound file is with the camera on the seat and the other is with it on the ground behind the bike. There are 3 pics that show the spacing between the motech racks. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. So time will tell.

You're right, it does sound like a muffled dirt bike, especially from behind. I've been waffling between a Leo Vince complete, Scorpion can and Staintune can. The Scorp sounds awesome.

Great sounding sounding! Got in trouble with the better half though - the pictures in the den fell off their hooks when I cranked it up a bit! How closely do the sound files replicate what you hear while riding or standing behind the bike. If it is close you really have an incredible sounding machine.

I can't really speak for the audio quality of the mic in my little point and shoot casio, but after my test ride I think it sounds pretty close to the audio files, they are a little less sharp maybe. After my test ride all I can say is what a wonderful racket. :) I'm liking it. You can't really hear it unless you're on the throttle. When you cruise at like 20-40mph it's as quiet as stock, but when you accelerate you hear it. My butt dyno says its revving better, my brain dyno says my hand is giving it more twist because my ear wants to hear it. :)

Sounds like mine---I'd say your camera mic picked it up pretty well. But you forgot to post this little nugget:

Man, that sounds great!
Where did you get it? About how much did it cost?

Looks and sounds good. I'm particularly interested in the heat issue. I have stock exhaust and the Pelican/Caribou side case system, and I've noticed that the right side luggage gets a bit warmer than the left. Without the stock heat guard I've wondered about how much heat would get to the cases or a passenger's leg - especially when the cases are off.

Let us know about the heat issues. Thanks.

I just put mine on a few weeks ago, as well. No leak issues, but the guy at the shop here did it for me and seemed to know what he was doing. The sound is perfect. I was worried it'd be too loud, but it's not bad at all, especailly compared to the straight-pipe cruiser I rode for a week in the US this summer. That was obnoxious. The coolness of carbon is a bonus. My last bike (CB 600F aka Hornet) came with one and the look and heat absorbtion had me hooked.

I think I asked this in another thread, I'm just not sure I got an answer (and can't find the thread).

I can ride without earplugs on the interstate cruising at 80-90 (have to wear them on the SV because of the wind noise). How much louder is the Scorpion versus the stock can in this example?

Motodepot is where I bought it for 374

The girlfriend claims the heat is less then the stocker even with the heatshield.

I can't speak to the sound at those speeds on the hwy as I rarely travel there. The pipe is significantly louder but not god aweful loud.

I'll second that. The Scorpion pipe is louder when you are accelerating or downshifting, but it's a "nice" loud. At highway speeds, you really don't hear it too much.... I got mine from Adventure Moto Stuff, http://www.amotostuff.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=dl650_exhaust_perf

They'll give you a nice discount when you register on their site as a Stroomtrooper member. $294 for the Stainless model, or $405 for the carbon model, and they are offering free shipping on the carbon....

I'm really looking at the Scorp. It seems that it runs cool enough to run my soft bags against - they are Ortliebs and have some padded heat protection on them. Any comments? I really don't feel like investing another $500 in hard luggage etc... I'm happy with the soft bags the 2-3 times a year I use them.

I think the bags will be fine, but I'd make sure none of the stainless fittings or the end cap are rubbing in a place that doesn't have heat tape as insurance. Stop often that first ride and really watch potential problem areas.
