With September only a few days away I thought I'd ask if anyone was interested in a September ride?
I have a few ideas mapped out including:
1. Santa Clarita, to Frasier Park to Ojai to Santa Clarita loop 195miles
2. Temecula, Palomar, Julian, and Escondido 140miles
3. San Bernardino to Banning to Idlywild to Hemet to Oak Glen to San Bern 120miles
4. Corona to Lake Elsinore to Dana Point to Cook's Corner (http://www.cookscorners.com/) in OC to Chino 114miles
5. A repeat of the ride that taken in April the Big Bear loop Starting out in San Bernardino and ending in the Cajon Pass 114miles
The Big Bear loop is my choice (1) because it's fun and (B) because it'll be getting cold up there again pretty soon.

My pick is #1 or #3, but mostly #1 since it would be my 1st. I have done Big Bear a few times. Im getting a 2nd interview at Microsoft, so it may be my last ride in So-Cal! After that, I need to find some guys in Washinton.

Big Bear sounds like fun to me. I missed out on that ride the last time. I like mountain roads. Have you guys ever tried the mount Baldy road up over Angeles crest to Azusa Canyon. Great view, 2 lanes....sort of, lots of curves, at very slow speeds....any faster and you'll be over the cliff.

I tell you what, lets do the ride gibbage wants to go on and then the next weekend if you guys want to we'll go on the Big Bear run. I found a neat little road that goes to 7 Oaks, it turns into dirt and then goes back up to hwy 38. We don't have to do the dirt, just turn around and go back the way we came and then on to BB. We can meet at my house or anywhere we decide.

Here's a couple mapped out routes that I have as ideas. I'm open to other suggestions. As far as dates 9, 15, 16, and 22 are out for me. Yeah, that's alot I know. Have to go to Oakland for 2 weeks for work. That leaves for me: ,1st, 2nd, 8th, 23rd, 29th, and 30th. Not much to work with but, maybe it'll work out for all of us. I hate to miss another ride. The Ojai ride that I have planned out is good but it's a really long day 195miles plus 80+miles each way to and from. I think by next month I'll have luggage and I'll make a ride like that an overnighter.

Are you talking about this route? I was on Mt Baldy road from Mountain last weekend and it was nice. From Glendora Ridge road to the top they're putting new asphalt down. But you don't have to go that way for this route. I didn't have time to explore Glendora Ridge rd yet (the road that goes to Glendora from Mt Baldy) I have the whole route mapped out at 37miles. But... if you ride it twice.. now we're up to 74 :-D

The 1st or the 8th look good, extended forecast is for the weekend of the 1st to be HOT, not sure about the 8th, we can play it by ear and see what it looks like next week. Don't know if my butt can handle that many miles, but only way to find out is to go for it:mrgreen:

I think it's the same route. I was there about 2 months ago. At that time the Glendora turn off was closed. I continued on to the 39. I could be wrong but from memory the route from Baldy to Azusa was quite long or maybe it seemed that way due to slow speeds. The road is narrow like the road to Mt. Wilson....only with better views in my opinion. There's also the old HWY 2 up to New Combs Resturaunt. I see Stroms there from time to time.
gibbage
08-25-2007, 03:48 AM
That Glendora route is nasty. Lots of debris on the road, blind corners, cliff side, and torn up tupperwear on the side of the road. Its like a road squids go too die. I did not like it at all. Im more for the Big Bear route. Its also a good 15-20 degrees cooler up there.

I would love to do big bear again now that my bike is all farkled and tuned to my liking.
Another ride that would be interesting is the 39 north up the east san gabriel fork. You can take this across to mt baldy.

Yes you could. You'd have to leave now though to get there by the weekend.
Just a wild guess I'd have to say there's 758 traffic lights between Huntington Beach and Mt Baldy by taking Beach Blvd (of course I made that number up but there are a whole bunch of them)

I rode to Elsinore, over Ortega to the 5 fwy, then 405 to the 10, over to Malibu--- then to the rockstore, had breakfast, 85 miles of riding around the Malibu canyons, gas over at Encino on the 101-- then the 101 to the 5 fwy-- and Banzai home. 400 miles round trip (a week ago last Sunday).
Big Bear would be fun, but on a Holiday weekend-- it will suck. I can't make the 8th, in the middle of moving.
If you want to come down to San Diego-- I have a NICE 250 mile loop that's easy, great riding, and minimal traffic. Lots to see.
We do have some nice Mtns down here.

Glad you guys had a great time! Lets see them photo's! I also had a great time on my 1st 2up ride. I took a friend up too Mt Willson and she loved it. She wants to go on more rides with me, so maybe I will bring her for the next meet! 2up was not as difficult as I thought it would be! Stopping with a sliding mass behind you was both tricky, and oddly pleasent.
