I live in a fairly mountianous area but after putting down 12k on my wee, I still look for 7th gear.
Has anyone here experimented with the final ratio? I would like to keep some of the bottom end but also gain some on top.
Like a 16/50 or 16/52 sprocket set. Any pointers, what I would gain or loose? I want to still be in the curve off the bottom, but drop the rpm's on top end for cruzing speeds. I think my 05 is a 15/48 or so, not sure off the top of my head.
I also do 2 up once in a great while. No tight trails, but dirt roads instead.

Lots written on this subject. Here's my take:
16 tooth sprocket for DL650 (http://www.jackphelps.com/vstrom/sprocket.htm)

I did just the 16 tooth up front and like it a lot. Any more than that would make it difficult in slower off road riding.

I tried the GSXR 16T and thought it to be a tad too tall for my use. I want to combine the 16T with something other than the 47 out back. More in between the 15/47 and the 16/47 gear sets.
Curious how this will effect the bottom end though in tight roads loaded up.
Maybe a 16/49? Not sure if I have seen a 49 though. I know the change will be subtle, but I thought the 16/47 would have been too.
