Local Knowledge Hwy 173 Lake Arrowhead

I was playing with google earth this morning (I'm always planning future rides)and Hwy 173 from Lake Arrowhead to the Hesperia area caught my eye. It occurred to me that I've never been on this road and couldn't remember if was a road at all or not. When I'm in that area I usually take the 138 up from Silverwood Lake, pass through Crestline then take the 18 to Big Bear or drop down to San Bernardino.

My guess is that it's a dirt road that may be gated due to the fire hazards of the area. But it's only a guess.

So, has anyone taken it? Is it open or closed, asphalt or dirt?

Damn. Answered my own question almost as soon as I asked it. Looks like it's been washed away.

I guess it's back to Google Earth again to try to find more of the roads less traveled. :D
