I know there has got to be a few of you in and around the Virginia/DC Metro region, otherwise who is buying up all the DL's in this area? :?:

Anyway, I am a newbie DL rider looking for some group rides once the weather gets a little nicer. My previous rides were a 1980 Honda CM400 that I owned in college and a 1987 Honda Magna 700 that I have ridden until the strom arrived. This is the first bike that has inspired me to take rides longer than 100 miles, so I am generally new to touring. I am really looking forward to exploring all the beautiful Virginia backroads that I typically only see 50-60 miles at a time on my road bike (pedals, not pistons), as well as all those that I haven't seen yet.

Please let me know if there are others out there, otherwise I am going to have to go tag along with the local GS crowd!! :D

Thanks,
Christian

Pasadena MD checkin in!

Hey Riff, I've been riding with a local SCRC chapter that meets here in Glen Burnie. I swear these guys know every back road there is. We often go "fugawi" out through the Western MD area. Weekend rides often start with breakfast at Daniel's on rte 1 in elkridge

I just found the Papastco (sp?) chapter. I shall check out the Glen Burnie one too soon!! Sounds like a plan.....but as for being a "Criuser" club.....would a sportbiker fit in?

Can't speak for the Patapsco chapter....but we defintely fit in the Glen Burnie Chessy chapter.

Yes there are some cruisers, but I regularly ride with VFR's, FZ1's, SV650's, Connie's..... and to be honest there are guys who ride thier GL1800's like sportbikes!

11 blocks east of the capitol should qualify me as "in the metro region." This will be my second season with the strom and my third overall. VA has some of the best roads in the area. They are easy to get to and just amazing to ride. Once the weather warms up a bit, count me in. I recommend an early start, because weekend traffic is just as bad as weekday traffic, just less predictable. I usually take 66 to Haymarket and just have fun for a few hours.

Emgold,

I think Southeast qualifies as metro as much as one could.

I actually live 2 minutes from exit 40 off 66 in Haymarket and know everything west out to Winchester fairly well. We should definitely try to hook up for a ride when the weather breaks a bit.

B-Mac, where is Chesepeake Beach? Down Rt 2 in Southern MD or nearer Annapolis?
:?

05-02-2005, 11:38 AM
To:Jag 44 Directions to Chesapeake Beach Route 4 south from beltway or route 2 south from Anapolis to R 260 east till you run into the Bay. North Beach and Chesapeake Beach sit side by side at route 260 and 261 north end of Calvert Co. Nice roads Motorcycle friendly. I work for the town of North Beach so I am around all week. We just had a Blessing of Bikes here on Sunday,Yea I know it's a harley thing but good band and food. I got out of town left at 8am returned 9pm and road 362 miles out to West Virginia to give my new supenision upgrades a shake down on the great back roads.

Way to go B-Mac, long ride for a newbie like me. 100 miles or so and I am done for the day. I know where you are now. I thought you were south of Annapolis. I may take your advice and head down your way someday. I am just learning all the little roads north of Baltimore and up into southern PA. Took a nice little ride last week with my son up to Peach Bottom and we did not even glow on the way home, well at least he didn't when I looked at him in my review mirror :)

After selling my 1100GS with 48K miles.

My wife and I flew to CT to pick it up and covered almost 700 miles getting back home to SE VA. I made the right move leaving the GS, didn't know what I was missing.

Live in Hampton, VA, and spend most weekends near Buena Vista, VA, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway.

There is a feller in Herndon, at the TWC/RR building that just bought a new DL650 - still got the cardboard tags on it... you lurkn' this thread maybe?

I've been exploring the George Washington national forest near the WV and VA border (Hardey and Shenandoah counties). A good mix of dirt roads and paved twisties (and a few 100+ MPH straights  ).

Might try to get out this Sunday. If anybody is interested let me know and we might be able to figure out a place to join up.

Already racked up about 300 miles and spent a bunch of money on stuff to bolt on.

Anyone out there looking for a few runs this summer.

Going on a Poker Run on Saturday and to a Skoot School on Sunday.

But I'm open next weekend.

Anyone planning anything.

We need to get together and compair notes and hints. Heck, maybe even plan a ride or something.

Lets talk.

Hello all, I am a new DL1000K5 owner ni Winchester, VA. This is the first bike I have owned, although I've had my endorsement since I was 19. ( I had a spoiled roomate in college with a new bike every year, and since he didn't buy em, he didn't mind us ridin em.)

My GF has a ZRX1100 and has had it since we started dating 3 years ago, so I knew I would get a bike eventually. We found a great deal on the DL1000 which only had 2800 miles on it, so we bought it. Picked it up last Thursday, and took a weekend trip out to Big Bear Lake, near Morgantown WV, this past weekend.

I am an avid mountain biker, and ride some pretty technical stuff out here in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, so I am interested in doing a little dirt / fire road riding on the Strom after I get used to it a bit more. I love the bike. After less than a week on it, it feels very natural and well balanced. There is the slightest hiccup in acceleration, so I'm planing on doing a throttle body sync on it soon.

Let me know when any of you guys come out this way, I would love to hook up for a ride.

Hey, I am due for a TBS and think I am going to do the $4 ATF Manometer thing this weekend. If you're still planning on the TBS, I'll let you know how it goes.

Any other NoVA strommers want to tag team this chore? I've got plenty of garage space and all the tools we'll need, so just let me know.
