I have some carbon fiber bars laying around i want to throw together on the bike so I can put on some highway pegs.
But, I'm lacking at some ideas on how to attach it to the bike (it being on stands for the last 2 damn months doesn't help, so I can't see where my feet would even be)...

So, if you bought or made your own, can I have some pics?

Cheers!

When I bought my DL1000 (used), it had highway pegs strapped to the Givi crash bar. No pictures handy, so here's a lame description: the highway pegs consist of two folding footpegs (maybe Kuryakin? cylinders with o-rings around them) hinged off a straight bar (with a decorative twist) about two feet long. The whole bar/peg arrangement is fastened to the horizontal front crosspiece of the Givi crash bar with some inelegant bolts and generic brackets. Not pretty, but functional for the 10k miles I've had the bike.

I recently snapped off one of the pegs through some dirt road overexuberance, so now I'm looking for either a replacement of the same sort of peg apparatus or a more graceful setup. I'll keep you posted.

Riff42,

For an excellent design, install instructions and pics on highway foot pegs mounted to a Givi crashbar do a search for "frankenstein highway pegs" to read up on Bobosmite's brilliant solution.

As I have a 38" inseam I went with the Pat Walsh skid plate/ engine guard arrangement and installed a couple e-bay clamp-on retactable pegs towards the bottom of the pipes. This set up will provide the longest reach for my gamms. Sorry, no pix handy but simply visit the Pat Walsh site and all will be clear. Even with my height it's like sitting in a tall office chair. I could not ride more than an hour or 2 on the hwy without them. BTW, Pat and Company are great folks to work with.

Let's face it. No real good place on the stock Strom to mount pegs without adding framework or guards.

I put inexpensive pegs on my stock wee, as soon as I got it 05'. On bottom of engine is a cast motor mount hole not being used, for this model application. I just ran a 3/8" rod thru, cut to lenght and used nuts and washers to tread on California pegs from Dennis Kirk. They are one foot ahead of existing pegs with room to strech and rest. Keep it simple stupid is always best. Hoss

Sounds good to me. I'm gonna have to look for this mount point.

Yeah, looks like he uses the oil guard as one mounting point for the bars. Hmm...gonnahave to learn how to weld!

The Pat Walsh set-up only connects to the bike at 4 spots. 2 rear of belly pan to frame, 2 upper motor mount on the frame. It doesn't touch any part of the motor at all. Not sure what you are talking about "oil guard"???? Am I missing something?

The simplest solution I found was to mount them on the crash bars; I used a set of Custom Chrome 7/8" bar clamps with a pair of Elcheapo,, I mean Emgo folding pegs; total cost was about $21.
The clamps came from an independent Harley shop; he does a lot of work on older bikes and we were able to find them in the Custom Chrome catalog, $7.96 each, as I remember; the pegs came from my local independent shop, $4.76 out the door.
Very similar to the Frankenstein pegs that Bobosmite put on, but a little less $$ and different location (different bars).
I do like his idea of using the "Extended Male Mount Control Pegs" tho' and may try them out.

Lookie at http://www.patwalshdesigns.com/images/ghost.jpg
The top isbolted onto the frame, middle bolts are a cross bar, and the bottom bolts onto the, sorry, Skidplate.

Which means that I would need to buy the skidplate as well to use the bars.
And for 270$....I'll take a welding class and make my own!

God, why are crash/luggage bars and mounts so damn expensive?!

Yeah, I don't have crash bars.....they cost an arm and a leg. That is why I am trying to make my own mounts.

...they cost an arm and a leg.or about 1/2 the cost of replacing a turn signal and a fairing. Not including mirror or lever.

I like those pegs, but where do you mount them on the SW-Motect crash bars so your feet can reach them?? I can't envision a place on my bars where I could place my feet on mounted pegs and NOT FEEL like I putting myself in danger.

I was wondering the same thing. I sat on the bike and I can't figure out where the highway pegs would go. Can anyone help? anyone have any pictures with their's mounted?

I ran across this guys site the other day

http://community-2.webtv.net/CHERDAN/MyVStromAccessories/

He produces and sells two different versions of highway pegs for the DL650 that do not require crashbars to mount to for $100. You might want to check them out. He's really a great guy to do business with, and when you place your order his girlfriend has this really sexy voice over the phone. ;)

Man, it's gettin' harder for me to find creative ways to post my site here. LOL

I have pegs mounted on PW's peg location and some frame sliders from my previous bike clamped to the crash bar uppers for that 'birthing' position.
