Im just on the verge of buying the GPSMAP 60CSx(handheld,weather proof etc...).The guy at the shop knew quite alot about the unit, but unfortunately couldnt elloborate too much on the coverage of city nav software.

Ive seen plenty of shots of urban areas online, and they look pretty good.My concern lies rather in what kind of display you get when riding out in the sticks.I dont expect obscure fire trails in the middle of nowhere, but I definitely want all other minor roads to be shown, for example:Wombeyan caves Rd and some of the minor roads that run off it,Jerong Rd,Mares Forest Rd Taralga,Joadja Rd,Soapy flat rd near Bowral.Or for instance:The Oberon area;are roads like Murrays Ln,Mozart rd and sloggetts rd(all of these dirt) displayed?

If anyone has city nav version 7,could you please fill me in on the pros and cons.I dont mind free software, but I do perfer to pay the full price for the real thing(a bit particular, but thats me)

Also,I inquired about the bike mount.I seems ok and should just fit on the left side of my handle bars,dl650 of course. Is this an easy process? have any of you had problems mounting a hand held GPS on your bikes.

I've had no problems mounting any of my GPS' to the bars. You might want to go a Ram mount (that's a brand) - they seem to be more secure than some of the plastic OEM stuff.

I just bought a GPSMap60Csx to replace the one I was using on the weekend (I think I was telling you that?) and am very happy with it so far?

For your consideration:

GPSOZ.com.au - $799

GPS4Fun.com - $369 US

I got mine from the US - it was under $600 AU incl 3 day fedex shipping, 2 cases, h'bar mounts and aux power cable.

Just a thought - your decision.

Don't know a lot about City Nav? I'm guessing they use standard Garmin maps and add a routing feature. If they are the same maps as Brendan's (you havent met him yet) Zumo then the have a lot more coverage than my Tom Tom - they even had the Yango track on there - 40 k's of gated dirt half way along Putty rd!!

You can always augment them with other maps - like the OZTopo from GPSOZ and the free maps I have mentioned. One map set will not necessarily do it all for you - unfortunately?

With the free maps I mentioned elsewhere you can 'discover' a road and submit it for inclusion on the next version...

I wouldn't bother with the GPS60CSx, get the 60CX instead.
The only things that that the CSx has over the CX are the electronic compass to tell you compass bearing while you are standing still and the elevation functions that measure ascent and descent figures. Neither of those features has any practical use on a motorcycle unless you plan on carrying it on you back up Mt Everest.
The 60CX is $100 cheaper than the CSx in Australia and that's about 40% of the cost of the City Navigator software.

Thats great! I just bought the 60CSx on Saturday morning with the citynav software.I am very happy with it.I took the bike up to Cessnock via St Alburns and Wisemans today. The unit impressed me,exceeding all my expectations. The mapping is highly detailed, showing the most obscure tracks in the middle of nowhere. All the funtions like routing, searching for resturants etc etc....are simply amazing.I pulled up to Morriset tonight, after some dirt trail riding up in the mountains behind Cessnock. When I got close to town,I just pressed 'Find' and selected Restaurants. It gave me a listing of all the takeaways, restaurants and food outlets within 20km.Turely astounding, considering I have never used a GPS before.

I love the way it mounts on the RAM,its right infront of you and very easy to read. The push button controls make it a dream to navigate while your riding.

Good Choice Deano on picking it up.I didnt get it at the bargin price you got it at.I bought mine at Appleseed GPS on Parra Rd at Straghfield. It cost about $690,the Software $300 and the mount $60.In total about $1050 for the lot.Money well spent! Ive never had so much fun with a toy like this.

I got the RAM mount, its easy to install and very secure.

If your looking for more detailed maps check either of the shonkymaps http://www.shonkylogic.net/shonkymaps/

or the Tracks for australia mapsets http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/tracks4australia/

I have used both of these extensivly on my smaller bikes. Much more detail and minor tracks than CN7.

They do not bhave the autoroute feature that CN7 does, so I use CN7 for city and either of the above for off road riding.
Hope this is of interest.
Cheers
