My father has been talking for a while about getting a bike so we can go riding together. He recently found an '87 Kawasaki Voyager for sale locally. 26k, fully loaded, new tires, mint condition. $3200. I was told this was a Concours, then found out it was a Voyager.

Does this seem like a good deal? From reading other posts, I know the mileage isn't an issue.

I also told him if he was serious about getting a bike I'd rather get him into something lighter, like a Wee:). He's looking really hard at that Kawi though. The only other thing I'm worried about is that the Kawi will be to big for him. He hasn't ridden in about 25yrs(I'm 25, I wonder if there is a connection), and his last bike was a '68 Suzuki enduro, I'm not sure what kind, but it was small.

What are your opinions?

Connie's a great bike and there are tons of them out there. They're heavy but not too heavy. You just need to careful that when you put your foot down that there's actually good ground under it. 3200 seems high. Check out www.concours.org for all your Connie questions.

The Voyager is a dependable comfortable touring bike. What does your Dad want to do on the bike? Answer that question and that will tell you if the Voyager is the right bike for him. The Voyager does carry its weight lower than most touring type bikes. I'm 56 and ride a BMW K1200LT, so age is not a limiting factor. How is your Dad's physical condition? Leg strength? You know the questions. I put lots of happy mile on my old Voyager. Tell him to check out these sites
