Any hand/foot/butt numbing vibrations?
I'm considering getting a V-Strom and am wondering (assuming the clutch basket is good) if there is any vibration that is annoying and results in numbness or discomfort.
I have an naked '01 SV 650 with a Barsnake and foam grips and it's not bad, but is buzzy enough for owners to view/feel it as a problem and try to correct it. It turns 5-6K rpms at cruising speed which doesn't help the situation either, but the flickability is certainly amazing and helps offset that. Unfortunatley here in southeast MI there are very few twisties so the bikes amazing handling goes unused.

Don't think you'll find this a problem, V-Stroms seem to have less vibration than bikes of similar size. V-twin rumble/vibration is noticed most at the low end, declining at higher speeds and lost past 50mph. Don't believe you'll ever see 6th/OD in the motor city.
Initial hand numbing seemed to be more from heated grips and hand position. Never had the butt/foot type. Flickability should still be there for highway overtaking or emerging from inner city corners. See if you can get an extended test run from a local dealer (even if it's second-hand).

I am right there with Paul. Non-Issue. This is the first machine I have owned where the ergos fit me perfectly (6'-185lbs). I never even suffered a bit of Form Arm Pump Up on 1000 mile runs.
Very flickable too, but not as flickable as your SV though. Should be a "Non-Issue" though.

Thanks guys. As for test rides - dealers don't do that around here unless it's ok'd by the factory, e.g. Victory & BMW.
So at what speed is it ok to shift into that overdrive? I'd guess at 60 mph or higher. I hear a lot about the lack of passing power from different folks at the local bike nights we have around here. I always ask 'em if they downshift, then they look at me with that "deer in the headlights" look and proceed to tell me they leave their scoot in top gear. I don't get it, I drop my 650 down to fourth  and it'll really pull hard.

Uphill or incline, I'm usually shifting into OD about 80mph/6000rpm. On the level or downhill it's usually about 5-10mph less.
I rarely downshift out of 5th to overtake, because of the v-twin torque you can get a squeal from the back tyre if you push it too quickly down into 4th (that sure never happened on the Bandit!!). Then you look something like Jacques Villeneuve at the US Grand Prix with all the smoke. I had to really get used to downshifting to UK roundabouts as the back tyre wanted to skid away from the lean as soon as you kicked down into 3rd.
Shame about test rides there. It's really popular here, and the only things I haven't ridden lately are Harleys and Ducati's.

Any hand/foot/butt numbing vibrations?

Cos,
I now have these vibrations after having 11,000 vib-free miles. My dealer told me that the primary driven gear (clutch basket) needs to be replaced. The part is on backorder right now.
Other than this, it has been smooth as silk.

Flew back in yesterday and had to get out on the bike to confirm speed vs RPM, the figures I quoted seemed high.
Shifting into OD at 6000rpm is from 4th, cycling quickly through 5th. 80mph in 5th is only about 5200rpm uphill, then holding 80 in OD is just over 4200rpm. Smooth and quiet really. Passed a line of traffic on the way to a friend's for lunch...downshifted to 4th then 5th (from 60 to 90mph) then kicked it up to OD coming back into the lane. No bother.
Cheers.

Not really an issue. 6th gear at anything over 4500 rpms and the bike is the happiest. I have installed a Yellow Box so now my speedo reads 65 at around 4100 rpms in 6th gear. Before it was anything over 75 in 6 th gear. As far as passing power no problems there either. I did a top speed run a couple of weekends ago and 5th gear 117 mph was at 8500 rpms. I had Givi E36 side cases on at the time. If you need to just down shift and pass the cars will grow smaller in your mirrors very quickly.
