All geared up for a trip to Canada and going through the paperwork one
last time I notice that my insurance cards are marked "temporary" and
expire in a couple of days. So, no problem I think, go through the big
package from the insurance company that I should have gone through when
it arrived and it turns out that that's a bunch of crap from the agent,
not from the company, and the cards are the same as I already have.
I've been getting bills so presumably I have insurance in force.

So here I sit with no proof of insurance. There's no contact number for
the company, nor do they have a Web site. The agent, of course, is not
in.

So tomorrow I bitch at the agent, but I don't hold out much hope of
getting a timely resolution.

So, does anybody have an insurance company to recommend that does
business in CT that can get the blasted cards out _fast_, or do I just
sit here on my butt for the next month waiting for their paperwork to
clear?

I tried Esurance, for motorcycle they just flash over to Geico.

Ordinarily I wouldn't be worried about it but I'm told that the
Canadians require proof of insurance for entry into the country.

I've had USAA, Progressive and Farmers e-mail me my insurance documents. Just print and go. None of them said temporary on them.

I am insured with these guys. For me, the cost is $269.00 per year. It's fast online. You can print your ins. card yourself.

I've never been asked for the proof at the border either way. You really need it if you get a moving violation or accident though.
It's only a small card that the agent can fill in maually and takes 5 minutes for them to do. Be at you agent's door at 8am and you should be on the road by 8:15.

Have a sweet and safe trip North. Hit the Cabot Trail in NS if you get a chance.

State farm gave me a scrap of paper with my information on that is proof of insurance in Canada. I haven't used it yet, but it is just as Firefly state, a simple walk in and they fill it out for you.

That said it's never simple. When I "walked in" they just happened to be out of the forms. So they US mailed me the information, which resembled a photocopy or FAX. It's not too official looking.

I don't think you really need it, but they say it helps get through the border check. Sort of like Passports. They aren't needed until sometime this fall, but the theory is that they do help you get through quicker.

Geico email's a printable form/contract/card. They followed up with a mailed document 48 hours later.

Went with Jackpiner's suggestion, had confirmation of insurance by email.

Turned out to be a non-issue. Only thing they looked at at the border was the passport. So here I am in the Gouvernour Ste Foy getting dried off (of course _now_ it decides to stop raining). According to Accuweather at 6 AM this morning there was a "chance of thundershower" before noon and sunny and high nineties by 5 PM. So I dressed for hot and dry and got cool and wet.

And needless to say I dropped my best GoreTex gloves in a puddle.
