Mirrors

The mirrors on the K4 and K5 V-Strom do not extend out far enough to the sides. An average sized person wearing a protective motorcycle jacket (includes shoulder pads) gets a great view of his shoulders, but can not see the lane directly behind the bike. This is a safety concern.

I replaced the stock mirrors with Napoleons and you get always add extenders to the stock mirrors. I believe Kouba link and Twisted Throttle both sell wideners for the stock mirrors.

I replaced mine with factory GS550 mirrors. Just a little wider and large lenses for a good rearward view. Emgo makes knock offs for not a lot of money.

Not trick looking, but effective.

My 2005 DL650 has the best mirrors I have ever had the pleasure to ride with, plenty wide for a good view and no vibes.

+1 for stock mirror on the DL1k being useless (or would that be -1?)... mirrors need to be wider, not taller. I changed to Napoleon (long) from Holeshot. Stromette can now see who she's leaving in the dust rather than the dust on her jacket! :lol:

I installed some motorcycle convex blind spot mirrors, on the stock mirrors. They work and look really great and I never have to look over my shoulder! :)

What's with the weird mounts for the mirrors? Why go to the trouble and expense of a compression fitting when a threaded stem and a locknut would work. Dealer over tightened the fitting, making it impossible for me to adjust the stem angle. Broke the plastic holder at the top of the stem next to the glass. Now it nnot only won't adjust, it flops in the wind. :evil:

Yeah, that compression fitting is trouble. After much rain riding, mine rusted and froze solid inside the base. After much torching and WD40 I eventually broke them both loose. I've since replaced them with ZRX1200 mirrors I bought from a guy. I'm very happy with them. Look here for pics: http://11109.rapidforum.com/topic=121677094186

Looks like somebody hit the plumbing dept at Home Depot when they realized they'd ordered 10,000 of the wrong mirrors.
