After many months of looking at the Nikon D-70 Digital Camera my wife forced me to buy one yesterday just to shut me up. So far, it's pretty sweet. I am looking forward to getting some great V-Strom shots with it. Anyone here have one?

I've had one for around 6 months. Great camera. I got it for my wife as she had a nice camera when I met her back in 1981, but she didn't like it because it was too big so she still prefers to use a smaller digital that we have. But the D70 is great for picture quality, good ergos, and great performance. Also the battery lasts a very long time.

OK you Niko-Maniacs...............This fellow stromer needs some D70 Info.
As an Old 35mm guy, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a D70 and dump my 3.3mp Zeiss vario-sonnar lensed Sony (not enough creative control among other gripes).....
Questions......
1. I understand that the D70 will accept ALL Nikon Lenses both AF and non AF. Is this correct? Any direct experence (I'm still hanging on to my mid-60s Nikon F & Nikkor lenses)
2. Talk to me about battery life...Good, bad, average???
Thanks in advance!

Hey "Compared"....
The mount is the same. Some features will be missing (i.e. AF, TTL metering) if non-CPU lenses. Nikon warns about using the old MF lenses, but many use them without trouble. (As I have with an old 50mm 1.8)
Battery life is fantastic (buy a second and keep it charged regardless - never want to miss a shot).
Hit dpreview.com....a wealth of information and as long as you search first, you won't get flamed for your questions.
Happy snaps!

Sounds like I'll be able to use my 50 1.4, 35 2.8 and 105 2.5. :D

FInally picked up a D70S about a month ago. Awesome Camera. Went for a spare battery as you suggested but I'm totally blown away at how freaking long the battery actually lasts.
Thanks for the help.

I have been interested in the D70/D70s myself - my son's roommate has one and I was impressed.
Any suggestions as to which model - S or non-S? I don't see much difference for about $100 more for the S. :?
My 35mm days were with some Minolta 70-80s SLRs but I am ready to try some Nikon stuff. What is a good general purpose lens to get first. The guy I mentioned uses a Sigma 35-300 zoom - I would rather go with a Nikkor, but not a $1200 one...
Will probably take the plunge once I sell a scooter, 80 mpg, anyone interested? :D
Oh yeah, the wife has given permission to upgrade... :D

I have had mine for many months now and I am glad I bought it. I have some photos at http://www.purplepug.com I shot several today while entertaining Indiana Department of Resources execs at our local (and only one in the state) OHV facility. It is easy to use and takes excellent photos.
I am using the 18-70 Nikon lens that came wtih the kit.
I purchased a 100-300 Tamron and it is good, but not the high quality of the comparable Nikon.
I was told that you can go to Nikon's website and download the "upgrades" to the D-70. This gives the D-70 the same features and programs as the S. The main diff is the S has a larger viewscreen.
I sold all of my film equipment and used the $ to buy a Nikon Speedlight 800. Kick butt flash btw.

My son's roommate said the same thing. He also said that the screens have the same number of pixels so the larger screen just buys you size and not resolution.
So, I'm leaning toward just the DX70...

I've been told the battery lasts longer but suspect that's a function of the upgraded power management "scheme". Dang that thing never needs recharging.

How are you going to make a post about a camera, yet not show us any pictures that it takes?

Jennifer and I took a nice evening ride today. I stopped by the Brazil, IN airport which is very small. We went just watch a plane do some touch-and-go's when I heard what i thought was a gyrocopter heading towards us. It happened to be my ultimate "Dream Machine" a Robinson R22.
http://www.purplepug.com/r22.gif
Of course I had to take a shot of the strom and the Robinson

We had a chance to chit chat with the pilot. He lives in Cleveland Ohio and flies for Air Evac and is based out of the Brazil airport. He works seven on/seven off and he gets to and from work in the R22. That is so cool.
