Starting a new thread so people don't have to read all 19+ pages of the original thread.

Here's a link to the first thread for background info.

I'll be at the Cherohala Motorcycle Resort at 2:00 PM on friday, 6/29/07. I'll be in the pavillion with a list of people who said they were going to attend. Please stop in and see me when you arrive so I know who all ended up making the journey. You guys can tell me then if you are interested in the dual sport ride, what your plans might be for riding Saturday, Sunday, etc.

I'll be providing hamburgers, hotdogs, and chips for Friday night's cookout dinner at the resort. There is an outdoor kitchen at the resort, as well as fire rings in the tent camping area. Also, Monroe county does not permit spirit sales. Beer is sold locally, but "hard" liquior is not - plan accordingly. The owners of the resort do not allow glass bottles, so please keep that in mind.

Any other questions shoot me a message. Also, I'm trying very hard to get the t-shirt thing to happen, but I cannot guarantee anything.

There are..............including the elusive mythical mountain lion(s) that have been sighted; some reports of black panthers; black bear; wild boar; elk; sometimes rabid raccoons; possums; timber rattlers; copperheads; red and grey fox..................I will stop now. Oh yeah.................reports of Yetties too! To those who never heard that term....."Bigfoot".

You guys have fun. I will not be able to attend now due to lawn projects.

The funny part about the original question is that it was an inside joke. Since Fourvalve won't be there, we don't have to worry about it too much.

I really appreciate the sentiment, but I'll just take care of myself this time, especially with what happened tonight. I stopped at Meijers to buy a U. Michigan sleeping bag (that's right, a maize n blue sleeping bag), and bungeed it down. Stopped to get a bite at the gas station--heeeeyy, what's wrong with this picture? Answer, nothing to show for my purchase but one red dangling bungee cord. I would hate to have that happen to somebody else's stuff. I guess it's not the first time I've pissed away $20...Looking forward to seeing my fellow Hoosiers when I get down there.

Big fun and exciting water crossings. Thanks also to all who attended, especially Balaz, for making the event memorable. And last, but not least, to Renee and Mark for their hospitality. If you went on the Dual sport ride, and did not get a DVD, it is well worth a buck for the pics alone not to mention the video of the creek crossing and such.

Thanks to all who attended this past weekend. It was great to put faces with names and share a good ride. There are several things that I wish went better, but nothing is ever perfect.

I truely hope those that went with us on the dual sport ride remember the good times and forget the little hangups we had with the route. I promise you it won't be an issue in the futre.

Graywolf (Eli) has put the videos of the water crossing on youtube, so please enjoy. He's also offering copies of the DVD if people didn't get one that wanted one. Send him a PM if interested.

If we are wanting to do this again next year, I'll volunteer to get it together, etc. I also promise to not be late!

Hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

Aaaah, reality sucks.... Made it back last night about 8:30, just in time to miss my entire rehearsal and have the release mechanism on my HJC modular seize up (again--anyone else have a problem with these things?). A few words of appreciation for what has recently taken place:

First of all, big thanks for Tige, Eli, and Brendan for getting this all together and off the ground--what a fantastic idea, place, time!

Thanks to Tige, Eli, and Coop for organizing an event that helped me grow as a rider by doing things I'd never done before. I used to be acomplete dirt wuss, and now....I'm, ahhh, less of a dirt wuss. Special thanks to Coop for the words of encouragement ("It's pavement with lumps..."), and apologies to him and anyone else who rode behind me.

Thanks to Cherohala Motorcycle Resort and Hunt's Lodge for their easy hospitality during the weekend. The parties at Hunt's ROCKED! And speaking of which...

Thanks to JohnnyReb, who definitely "knows his cuts of meat," and is a very generous fellow, and to the Mighty "Chef" who did an awesome job of grilling everything to perfection.

Thanks and kudos to Balasz, the Mad Hungarian, who showed once again that dreams can come true. It was great to hang with you, buddy, and best of times for the rest of your trip.

Thanks to the transportation departments of Tennessee and North Carolina, for giving us all those awesome roads to ride on (and for keeping them smooth and clean).

And finally, thanks to Suzuki for designing and building such a solid, reliable, capable, versatile, economical, comfortable, good-handling, and fun machine that inspires some of the most diverse and interesting people to purchase them, ride them, and occasionally gather in spectacular locations for good times.

What a weekend...

Wow, well put loblo. I was really happy to have you along on the ride. I was blown away by how many folks came on the ride. I was as impressed as could be by all that you did when it was obvious how uncomfortable you were. You conquered some pretty tough stuff for your first time offroad. I honestly expected the opposite of that happened to happen. I figured you and a half dozen other riders would meet us up on buckbald for the second part of the trip and skip the water. That EVERYONE tried the water and EVERYONE succeeded brilliantly was just AWESOME.

As a matter of fact that road right before you peeled off was not on the route and was awful. I could tell that no one was enjoying that one. Ahh well, next time I'll have a GPS and will not overshoot the turn.

Thanks for coming out of your comfort zone and kicking ass. We'll see you for the next one

Truly was the best rides of my life and one of the best times. I met many awesome people and got to know several quite well. Everyone was like a new best friend. I rode out saturday morning and missed seeing Brendan who rode like 9 hours(maybe different) hung out that night and had to bolt home for a wedding the next day. I hope we'll meet next time. I never would have found the place but peter from ontario saw me at the gas station and took the time to follow me back to hunts motorcycle campground drop off my ice and take me to cherohalo campground where i met lew and punky the amazing man and dog team, Dennis, john and of course peter. Everyone else was off on the backwoods rides which looked awesome by the way.
Back at my camp(hunts) i set my tiny tent up just in time to be joined by a huge guy in full leathers on a harley(turned out to be a vulcan) He wanted to camp near me and so i met Richard Grimlett, a Biker, Traveler and motorcycle book author. We talked a good bit and he was the furthest thing from any stereotypical thoughts i had. By the time he left i was presented with his book " chronicles of a biker" and a bikers bible. Quite a guy.
At our camp we had a killer feast and i got to know Balazs,a brilliant and entertaining good guy, water warrior all the way from ... somewhere way up in canada, Kap, the mighty shep: a good man on the grill and here from california, loblo a motorcycle safety instructor and a heck of a good guy, I got to hang out with monkeygrass and his friends and his brother scott. All high energy guys who were a blast to be with. Big b and his friends came in and soon we had a bunch of people. There were still people chewing on ribs at 1am. There were many more but the stories and names could go on and on.
The rides were awesome as we did the cherohalo (sp?) highway and the twisty roads going around lake fontana. We then did the dragon and met up with more stromtroopers who ran it with us.We all met local people and riders from everywhere and all were extremely friendly. I will so be back... We had some trouble as one of the stroms went down. In the pics you will see the milkman, balazs and the water warrior working on the bashed bike. They got her going. I knew a couple others who went down too but luck shined as no one got hurt.
Here are some of the various pictures i took, Balazs and others will have many more.

You summed up the weekend pretty well JREB, and it was a pleasure to meet all of you. Well said Loblo.
I arrived back in Toronto 10:30 Tuesday after a very entertaining and uneventful scenic route home, except for one very large deer in WV that jummped off a high roadside embankment onto the road 20 yd in front of me, neither of us panicked, I squeezed the front brake hard, the deer took two quick leaps and was gone into the bush on the far side of the road. No harm, No foul, play on.
Special thanks to Eli and Tige, following you two showed me what this bike can do and raised my confidence and riding level considerably. I am much more relaxed at greater lean angles and I can read corner entry speed much better. I also know that if I am going in a little bit too hot, to have confidence in the tires, steer in harder and look to the end of the turn to keep the bike turning.
I have 25 000 mi on the bike in 2 years but you showed me how to ride on the side of the tires for the first time, with confidence.
Thanks again

An absolutely fantastic trip and it was really great meeting in person many of the people that I've met here. I just wish that we could all manage to get together at once so everyone could see what a great bunch we have.

We started the mouring with about 15 riders across the Cherohala Skyway to Deal Gap then acsoss the Dragon tail we were 8 then to the end of the Foothill Parkway we were 7.
When we ran the Dragon Tail of the way back , that was the most intense
11 miles I have ever run. Thats what is known a a fine ride.
Sorry, I couldn,t stay for the sunday ride but couldn't sleep on the ground again.
Thanks again for putting this trip together.

No worries B. I did have a close call with some "Bingo Babies" outside of Biloxi. Just came crashing into my lane. Fortunately I had already recognised them as a potential hazard, and was ready for their move. Freakin' blue heads!

Feels good, don't it?!

Glad you made it back home. Both literally and around here. It's been WAAAAY too quiet these past 3 weeks while you've been on the road!

Man I had a blast! Seems that the 'troopers are a good bunch of well rounded folks. Made lots of great friends, in a short amount of time! Looking forward to the next gathering. You guys rule :-D

Hey Shep,

it seems that except Bob (water warrior) all of us who came from more than 1000 miles far are safely arrived home.

Today is my first day in the office, just finished with reading and deleting emails and now I am here on the forum...

The acclimatization is one difficult thing when it comes to holiday versus work...

Jonnyreb:
Two weeks is okay. It depends on where you want to go. I made the return trip from Tallahassee Fl. to San Pedro CA. in 4 days. That was hauling ass and stopping for gas and food. No sight seeing.
Day 1 was 700 miles
Day 2 was 575 miles
Day 3 was 670 miles
Day 4 was 588 miles
(note: mileage is approximate)

add another day and you can smooth out the miles. That gives you four days to play with. Kind of tight but certainly do-able.

MonkeyGrass:

It felt good for about a day. Now I want to be back in the Smokies with the BBQ Krew. :(

Scott:

Any time. Glad to have met you too.

Balazs:

I'm glad you had a good time. It was great to meet you and have a few beers. Next time I'm in Europe I'll try to get over to Hungary and you can show me around. Or maybe we could meet in Munich for Octoberfest?

Either way would be nice, although Octoberfest is dangerous. You must be well-trained to drink liters of beer from the stronger type. You seemed to be OK, but I still need some practising...

I think it's a good idea to share our photos that we all made during the event.
At least I'm very interested in seeing yours!

If you got pics, post them here, or if you've already uploaded them to some server submit a link where we can have a look on them.

Maybe some of you remember that I've created an account at Picasaweb (by Google) right for this event. Everybody is welcome to use it.

You can find it here: http://picasaweb.google.com/tellicoplains/
To upload pics you need to sign: tellicoplains@gmail.com
Password is the name of this site without ".com".

I've already uploaded mines.

I think I'll be on The Big Trip then; out to Montana, then down the length of the Rockies, stop off at a friend's place in Jackson Hole, then back to Ahia. I'll be there if I can, though...
