Anyone who is interested in a good scenic ride and camping trip should consider joining us (the Raleigh Tribe) for this awesome weekend ride. We will be departing on Friday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m. and plan to arrive at the Peaks of Otter campground located in Bedford, VA (Milepost 86 - Blue Ridge Parkway). Estimate arrival time is around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15th the plan is to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway south to Doughton Park campgrounds located on the BRP (Milepost 245) . Sunday, Sept. 16th return to Raleigh arriving back in town around 3:00 p.m. This ride will be on paved roads only, no trails.

We'll be packing small tents, sleeping bags, clothing and other necessary gear on the Stroms for this weekend journey. There are many restuarants, stores, gas stations, etc. along the way. Campsite are around $15 per night and we can fit 2 or 3 tents on each site.

The ride plan is as follows: Friday depart at 3:00 p.m. from Lowes located on hwy 42 (exit 312 off I40) Garner/Clayton area take I40 west to hwy 15/501 north to hwy 40 west to hwy 29 north to hwy 43 north into the Peaks of Otter, VA. Saturday ride the Blue Ridge Parkway south for approx. 160 miles to the Doughton Park campground. Sunday ride the BRP south to hwy 18 south/east to hwy 421 east to I40 east back into Raleigh. In the past people wanted to join us on our rides and meet up with us along the way, that is all good as long as you meet us somewhere on our planned route.

Here is a link to maps and other good information about the Blue Ridge Parkway http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/.

Please let me know if you will be joining us on this trip. The Blue Ridge Parkway is awesome, you will absolutely be thrilled with this adventure.

Afraid I can't attend. My church is doing our annual building projects the 15th and it is a day long sometimes multi day event.

Have fun.......Fletch, I did not see you at the PBTF ride. I saw a V in the line-up but never saw the person riding it.

msheron I looked for you at the ride. I believe we were the only two Vstroms there. My family and I got there later than expected. By the time we got my brother registered at the patient family tent it was time to roll out. I believe I seen a picture of you on Steelponys.net though when we went through Hickory Nut Gap on Hwy 74. I'll post the link for the pictures.

Was this your first Ride 4 Kids ride? I hope you enjoyed it.

I'll try to catch up with you the next time im in your area.

Take care,
Fletch

Yep that is me!!!! Had my new helmet speakers in and testing them out. Sweeet.

I saw your bike but guess I kept missing you at the take off. I never saw you at the end point. I grabbed me some grub and listened to the program then high tailed it through 74 on the twisties back to my house.

Maybe we can catch up before next years PBTF ride and do some riding. This was my second time. The first time was 4 years ago on my Honda VTX1300.

Sounds like a plan! I was definitely itching to go back up highway 74 through the curves, but the family was ready to get back to Hickory. We'll have to plan on hitting that stretch of road if we go riding. Maybe even head up to Deals gap once the State Troopers decide to leave the area.

Regards,
Fletch

Where was everyone at? I got to Lowes Hardware at 2:45pm parked in the corner of the parking lot where I could see the intersection and waited till 4:00pm. I only seen a few cruiser bikes pass by but no other Vstroms. I even took the day off from work to go. Oh well. :-\

At least 15 minutes of my time wasn't wasted. Got to test my rain gear and goretex riding boots on the way to Lowes.

Rodney I PM'ed ya.

Plan B: Go to Hickory and see the folks.

Take care,
Fletch
