This July (next month) I'm planning a ride from San Francisco, CA to Chicago, IL. My plan is to take 80 East out of SF and go where I need to in order to get the most out of the ride. I'm looking to take about two weeks at the most. I'd love to hear any recommendations for roads to take along the way. Any MUST sees? Any MUST avoids? Any warnings, recommendations, tips, etc. are welcome.

When you get to Salt Lake drop south to the CanyonLands, Bryce, Zion, Lake Powell then make you way up through Colorado on every twisty road you can find. Silverton, Ouray way is an awesome route. Nebraska is as flat as piss on a plate. You could take 29 from Omaha to St. Joe then east to Hannibal, MO, scoot down the River Road to St. Louis then superslab it to Chicago. Did 6,197.5 miles from WNY to S. Dakota, down through CO. UT, WYO, MT and back across the midwest to WNY in 18 days last September on a 1200 Bandit. Had a fabulous time but in retrospect I'm wishing I had been riding the 'Strom instead. Have a great trip.

I'm compiling a list of all the places people recommend so this helps me out a lot.

Go here and get an Excellent Free Map of Utah, they'll mail to you. Worth every penny. LOL

All of the scenic routes through Utah, campgrounds and National Parks are shown on this map. Have a good trip, drive careful.
