I have been riding now for 6 years and have about 25-30,000 miles under my belt. As I am getting older I get more safety equipment and now feel like I'm on the "ATGATT" track. I have never taken a safety course and I don't think it's too late.

SO....having said all that, what would be the best course for me to take in the Portland area? I have seen people mention Team Oregon here recently. Are there others? Are there any that would be more attuned to my skill level? I feel like I am well set with the basics, but I'm interested in learning what the textbook says on what the best course of action would be in varying panic situations.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I can only go by what I have heard from other people, since I have only taken the beginner and intermediate Team Oregon class.

There is an advanced class geared for people like you that is supposed to be excellent. The beginning course and intermediate course were almost identical, with the begining course spending more time actually learning how to operate a motorcycle and more class time on basics like clothing. The advanced course actually pushes you to the limit, and I have heard sob stories about new motorcycles getting dumped. You need 7500 miles before you are allowed to take that class (which you exceed). Since I do not, excluding the riding I did 25 years ago, I cannot give you first hand knowledge.

The beginning and intermdiate class does a great job in telling you how to avoid emergency situations. People tell me the advanced class teaches what to do when you are in an emergency situation.

Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.

I would recommend going to the Team Oregon web site
http://teamoregon.orst.edu
If you have a desire to take the advanced class "ART" you need to have taken one of the other classes, so look into taking the "RSP" then the advanced class. They have all the schedule info on the web site.
Oh yeah, welcome to the ATGATT family.:D

I took the RSP last year after I got my last bike (the one before the Strom) and it was very helpful to practice the emergency braking and swerving techniques on my new bike.

I don't have enough miles yet to really qualify for ART yet, but I should take the RSP again with my Strom just for the building the confidence and muscle memory again.

For only $89 bucks, seems like a good investment, even if you do it once a year. It's cheaper than most deductibles and some Insurance company's even give you a discount for taking these courses. Foremost did for me.
