Next Saturday I will be heading down to Belligen NSW for the night at the YHA to meet up with a friend on his return trip from Sydney . If anyone is keen to come along, let me know. I intend to leave early Saturday and return to Brisbane Sunday afternoon. Riding through the mountains of course. Any excuse for a ride!

I LOVE that piece of road. It's only been relegated to second favourite in the last few weeks - the Oxley highway (Tamworth to Port Mac) is now number one!

I'm actually heading to Brisbane on that weekend too!! I have a wedding on the following weekend - thought it might be novel to spend a week there - working in the Brisbane office.

I had planned to ride to Kempsey on friday after work, then on to Brisbane on Sat but I might be able to change things around?

Will get back to you...

I'm out of luck Glen! Apparently I'm already 'locked in' for something on Sunday morning so I've got no choice now but to head off on friday afternoon.

I'm going to check the weather tomorrow to decide whether to head inland or via the coast to dodge the rain. Either way I will probably do the second half of the trip via:

Dorrigo-Grafton-Casino-Kyogle-Murwillumbah - if you're coming the other way and see a blue 650 with soft bags - stop and say hello!

At least you gave it a try. See you on the road, and safe riding!

That's the kind of ride I like, fine weather, good scenery and great roads. Covered 982km door to door via Beaudesert, Rathdowney, Mt Lindsay Hwy, Summerland Way, Wiangaree (lots of hungry turtles in the lake beside the road), Kyogle (great burgers at the cafe), Casino, Lawrence (fantastic scenery between here and Grafton), Grafton, Coutts Crossing, then I turned off before Ebor onto Waterfall Way to Dorrigo, then onto Bellingen. My favourite part would have to be Grafton to Bellingen, corner after sweeping corner of quality black top. Heaven!

Luck was on my side when I met up with Dean aka "OODEANO", a fellow Strom rider at Coutts Crossing where we swapped stories, and Dean took some pics before we each headed our own separate ways.

I can highly recommend the YHA at Bellingen, it was clean, well run, friendly and best of all it was no more than 30 metres from the pub.

The bike averaged around 18 litres per 100km, it could have been a little better if I slowed down, but where's the fun in that. That gave me a range of about 400km per tank. I tend to refuel at about the 350km mark to be on the safe side.

Back to work 'til next time

Ummm, I will assum that 18 litres per hundred kays is a typo or else you were caning it severely. :D

Sounds like you had fun and good to hear that the weather held.

I bet nobody thought this would work - least of all Glen or myself?

I was just rolling into Coutts Crossing and Glen was just rolling out.

It was an excellent 5 mins - both to meet Glen and to take off the wet gear, jumpers and extra socks I was wearing - I wasn't so lucky with the weather.

It POURED rain between newcastle and Muswelbrook on fri night - got through the wet gear and into the helmet - had no choice but to abandon my goal of Tamworth on fri night. It was FREEZING and still wet from Musso to Tamworth on sat morning - just cold from there till I got out from under the clouds after Armidale - beautiful from there on - perfect even!

Once again Glen - pleasure - perhaps some other time we'll be going the same direction :)

Oops! Does 18km to the litre sound closer??
