Well, I found a second bike. Just bought a 79 Suzuki GS850. Years ago I had an 80 GS850 and always regretted selling it. My new "old classic" is black with 16,600 miles on it and needs some detailing and some carb tweaking. I just got her home and am still smiling. Now have two great bikes.

I to love those old GS bikes. I sold a 82 GS1100E before I bought the strom.

Previous bikes
2 x 80 GS 750
79 GS850
(among some Hondas and a Yami)

The GS bikes were all strong and reliable. My favorite was the 850 shafty I think, although cracking the 1100 open was quite a thrill.

The GS Resources website was very helpful to me.

Have fun with it!!

I alway liked the GS1100G shafty. Excellent big standard sport tourer. Muchos HP + torque. Then there were the big air/oil cooled Bandits of recent years. Mine was an '03 in teal green. Better than the new ones - more power and a larger fuel tank. Any one got an '82 Yamaha 650 Seca with original pipes in silver they don't want anymore?

BC,
Yes, the GSResources site is excellent. Reminds me alot of this site for the V-Stroms. When I was thinking about buying the 79 GS850, I posted a message on the GS site asking advice. Two guys from my area ended up going with me to look at the bike and explaining what it would need. Now I'm working with one of them and rebuilding the carbs - all because he loves these bikes. As usual, when we connect with fellow enthusiasts good things happen.

That's a great story of guys helping each other out.

I used to put fuel stabilizer in mine all the time because of the concerns of the carbs gumming up.
