Haven't seen much going on in this sub-forum lately. We all must be riding more than web surfing here.:)

You may be right. I think everyone is out riding somewhere. I know we have a ride to the Uwharrie National Forest on the 16th. It will be 5 or 6 of us heading out from Raleigh that Saturday morning.

If you mean the Uwharrie's outside Greensboro which are in Randolph and Montgomery County you will be going to my home county. I camped alot in the UNF as a teenager. Unfortunately I am on call or I might have met you there just to ride all day.

If you ever come this way to go to Deal's Gap drop me a line and we can meet up. I have a co-worker that has a grey 07' Wee as well that would like to ride as well as other co-workers with different bikes.

We went as a group to the gap a few weeks ago for the rally sponsored by another forum. Had a blast. Next time we head that way we will give you a shout. You do the same if you head east.

Hi NCVSTROM, I'm in Charlotte and ride out to uwharrie at least a couple times a year. I've only run it in jeeps and on trail bikes and couldnt imagine stromin' it on some of those trails. Are you going to be riding the trails or just staying on the gravel? Either way it sounds like a good time and i would like to meet ya'll out there if i can get away that weekend. Is this just a day trip or are you going to camp? I'll touch base as we get a little closer. J.R

This is going to be a day trip. We have never actually been there before so we have no idea what we will run into. I have heard it is a big 4X4 spot but we thought if it gets rough we just back out and ride the area roads or something. We would love to hook up with you. I think the plan is to hit the road from Raleigh around 8am and get there around 10am.

Sounds good, i'll do my best to make it and i'll send you a pm to comfirm.
Check out the maps of the offroad trails(orange solid line designates offroad vehicle {ORV}) @ www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/uwharrie/
There are gravel roads that go for miles and we can do some exploring on those. The offroad trails get technical quick and we could easy get in trouble on most of them. The exception is the Falls dam trail which you can find on their website. It is the easiest of the orv trails and we can run all but the end of it. We could see how we do and maybe try pieces of the others. We are going to be getting strange looks as it is enjoyed mostly by hillbillies and hippies so the "Team suzuki" gang of 6 or so stroms is gonna be quite a sight!
You have to purchase an orv pass at a local country store before you can ride. Its $6.00 i think. There is nowhere to buy drinks or grub beyond those stores so bring what you need. Its in the boonies. Falls dam trail is accessed by state road 576 or moccasin creek road.
I'll let you know about me mid week. J.R.

The thought of it makes my but hurt! This stock seat kills me. 400 miles is an absolute max for me in a day. And that is pushing it! Do you have something other than the stocker on yours?

Stock seat.... I did 12000 miles on a DRZ400 with the stock seat last year, so the Strom seat is vinyl covered nirvana :D

but I can't take more than 45 minutes to an hour on this POS seat. When I get some cash another seat is definitely in the works!

I can go until the fuel light starts blinking.
Are you wearing jeans or riding pants? Believe it or not, the riding pants make a difference. If Im going to be doing more than about 4-500 miles in a day, I try not to wear jeans. I need to find some lighter textile pants though.... its getting a bit warm for the ones Ive got.

When it's warm and I have over pants for when it is cold. I have been thinking about wearing shorts under the pants when it gets hot. Maybe that would nake a difference. As it is, we did just over 300 miles today and my butt was killing me!

Hey NCVSTROM glad to see you all made it back ok. I enjoyed riding with the "Tribe" and look forward to doing it again. Just for all to know i saw my first v strom do a wheelie today, wish i had a picture.
Soon as your ready to give the dirt another try at uwharrie please give me a shout. I went on a short ride after we split up and the falls dam trail is doable with the stock tires. Enjoyed it catch ya soon. J.R

Looks like the Pisgah covered bridge but then again it does not unless they have taken out vegetation since my last visit.

Next time we venture that way you can be sure we will holler at you! If we keep this up we will have a network across the state. I have to admit, I am still wondering how the strom would fair on some of those trails. By the way, thanks for pointing out the access points as we went down the road.

Yesir that the bridge and don't worry NCVSTROM, your bike will do great on those trails long as you don't have any trouble on mountainsides, mud, huge rocks etc. lol later J.R.
